POPEYE’S REVENGE Trailer Features Popeye Getting (Low Budget Public Domain Horror) Revenge

It seems Popeye has crossed over into the public domain, which I hadn’t realized earlier. However, the recent release of a cheaply-produced, illogical horror film featuring everyone’s favorite spinach-eating sailor supports this claim. Despite its puzzling nature, there evidently exists an audience for such productions, or else they wouldn’t continue to be made. If you belong to that group or are simply intrigued by the macabre, here’s the trailer for Popeye’s Revenge.

Cause Popeye needs revenge. For some reason.

ITN Movies describes Popeye’s Revenge as a “shocking reimagining of the beloved character.” However, we see it more like a fusion of Friday the 13th and Popeye, which might indeed be shocking, but in a unique and unexpected way.

Cool.

Under the direction of William Stead (of “Children of the Night”), this film is brought to you by the same creative minds behind “Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey 1 & 2”. In this movie, the myth of Popeye lingers as a group of friends plan to establish a summer camp, where they may encounter unsettling echoes of the beloved sailor man.

….Great.

The horror movie features Kelly Rian Sanson (known for Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2), Danielle Scott (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey), and Danielle Ronald (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey). In this version, Steven Murphy portrays the ruthless Popeye. Let’s imagine that a can of spinach takes on its own role in the story.

Isn’t it time for copyright laws to evolve and prohibit the endless stream of identical-looking public domain horror movies that we keep seeing? After watching this trailer, I can’t help but feel that we won’t need to see too many more before change is needed. However, there’s always a chance this one might be particularly enjoyable. At least it has a runtime of just 79 minutes, which isn’t so bad! We’re not complaining about that!

As a movie buff, I’m thrilled to share that you can now stream the classic adventure, “Popeye’s Revenge,” exclusively on Amazon! Here’s to us and the general public enjoying this timeless piece of cinema!
