Poncle shadowdrops keyboard-smashing hack and slash Berserk or Die on PC

Apart from Palworld developer Pocketpair, Poncle, the creator of Vampire Survivors, has also ventured into publishing and their debut project, Berserk or Die, is a hack-and-slash game with an unconventional control setup. This innovative game has been covertly released on Steam and can be played on PC at the moment.

The fast-paced, game-wrecking title was created by independent developer Nao Shibata from Japan, operating under the name Nao Games on Steam.

As a game designer, I yearned to craft something fresh and extraordinary, and my moment came when I caught the eye of Luca Galante, founder of Poncle, during his visit to BitSummit in Japan. At the event, he experienced Berserk or Die, and instantly felt compelled to back it in some way, expressing that “Nao embodies the spirit of Poncle.

In Berserk or Die, you’ll assume the role of a solitary soldier in a never-ending battleground, constantly under siege from hordes of adversaries. Interestingly, you can navigate your character across this blood-soaked landscape solely through combat actions.

In this game, attacking simply refers to pressing keys on your keyboard rapidly and frequently, boosting the amount of damage your character inflicts. The main objective is essentially survival, but some players might strive to protect their keyboard and fingers, treating it like an unofficial challenge.

In the relentless fight of Berserk or Die, both standard controllers and accessibility controllers are welcomed, ensuring an enjoyable experience for gamers who prefer non-keyboard control. Moreover, the game’s soundtrack is provided by Filippo Vicarelli, known for his work on Vampire Survivors.

Players alternately use their keyboard for attacking and mouse for activating special moves, while they can buy power-ups, healing items from the merchant, or learn new attacks at the training ground. However, these are just brief pauses in the continuous barrage of pixelated violence that Nao Shibata has created.
