As a Pokémon TCG fan, I’m so excited! The Pokémon Company just announced a new expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket, and they’re saying it’s going to be the biggest one yet! I can’t wait to see what new cards are coming!
The new Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion, Mega Rising, will heavily feature Mega Evolution, similar to the recently released Pokémon Legends: Z-A. This set includes three booster packs themed around Mega Gyarados, Mega Altaria, and Mega Blaziken. It’s the first expansion since the initial Genetic Apex set to include three booster packs, rather than the usual one or two.
The biggest highlight of this new card set is Mega Evolved Pokémon. These are incredibly strong cards, similar to Pokémon ex, but even more powerful. While they boast higher stats and stronger attacks, opponents get three prize cards when they knock one out – enough to win the game instantly. This makes using Mega Evolved Pokémon a risky but potentially game-winning strategy.
These new Mega Pokémon cards have a simpler evolution rule. You don’t need to have the regular version of the Pokémon on the field first. For instance, Mega Pinsir can be played as a Basic Pokémon right away, and Mega Blaziken evolves from Combusken. This also means Stage 2 Mega Pokémon like Blaziken can be brought out quickly using Rare Candy, potentially creating very strong decks that will dominate the current competitive scene.
Starting next week, alongside the new expansion, players will have opportunities to earn promotional cards they didn’t collect during the game’s first year. We’re also holding events to celebrate the game’s first anniversary, with rewards like booster packs, gifts, and emblems.
The Pokémon TCG Pocket app will release the Mega Rising expansion on October 30, 2025. Special events celebrating the launch will begin the day before, on October 29th.
