After hearing about the latest announcement for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, I found myself joining everyone else in curiosity about which Pokémon would serve as the game’s starter. On Pokémon Day, a new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A was released, and to our excitement, it unveiled its starter Pokémon to the world.
It was previously announced that the setting for Pokémon Legends: Z-A would be Lumiose City, a location featured in both Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. However, unlike those games which introduced starters from Generation IV, the three starter Pokémon for this new game are Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile. These three Pokémon did not debut in Generation IV but appeared earlier in other games.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A‘s Starter Pokémon Are Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile
Earlier today, a fresh trailer for the upcoming game, “Pokémon Legends: Z-A,” was unveiled on Pokémon Day. You can view it below. In this new sneak peek, we discovered that the starters for this game will come from three different regions: two from the Johto region and one from Unova. Specifically, players will have the option to choose between Todadile (Johto), Chickorita (Johto), and Tepig (Unova). This is an intriguing decision by Pokémon because Tepig is a standout among the starters as it originates from the Unova region and is a Generation V Pokémon, whereas Todadile and Chickorita are both native to the Johto region. Similar to most Pokémon games, players will have the opportunity to select a water, grass, or fire type among these starter options.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A‘s Water-Type Starter Pokémon Is Totodile
As a diehard Pokémon fan, I can’t help but sing the praises of Totodile, a timeless gem from the Gen II era that’s an invaluable addition to any team. This little guy has not one, but two evolutions: Croconaw and Feraligatr, each more formidable than the last.
Totodile first made its debut as the water-type starter Pokémon in the games “Pokémon Gold” and “Silver”, which graced our Gameboy Color screens back in 1999. In the animated series, Totodile is known for its playful yet mischievous nature. According to its Pokedex entry, this little guy boasts powerful jaws that can reportedly crush anything!
In terms of evolution, Totodile typically evolves into Croconaw at level 18 and then into Feraligatr at level 30. And let’s not forget about Totodile’s unique ability – torrent! This power kicks in when its health is low, giving a boost to all water-type moves. It’s an awesome addition to any Pokémon strategy!
On the webpage for “Pokémon Legends: Z-A,” you’ll find crucial information regarding the water-type starter Pokémon it features.
Due to the fact that Totodile can bite without distinction, its trainer needs to stay alert. Although Totodile might believe it’s just playing with a bite, the force of its jaws is strong enough to inflict severe harm. Be mindful not to accidentally turn your back on it!
Pokémon Legends: Z-A‘s Grass-Type Starter Pokémon Is Chikorita
As a passionate Pokémon fan, I’m thrilled to share that the adorable grass-type starter Pokémon, Chikorita, hails from the captivating world of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but it originally appeared in the iconic games, Pokémon Gold and Silver. This little guy has a unique trait – two evolutions: Bayleef and Meganium.
Chikorita is a tiny creature with a gentle demeanor, easily recognized by the large leaf sprouting from its head. It enjoys basking in sunlight due to this leaf, which also helps it gauge the local humidity and temperature levels. As per its Pokedex entry, this leafy friend can do just that! Chikorita starts its evolution journey into Bayleef at level 16, and by level 32, it fully transforms into Meganium.
Reminiscent of Totodile, Chikorita possesses the ability called Overgrow. This fantastic trait amplifies the power of its grass-type moves when its health is running low!
The Pokémon Legends: Z-A webpage offers these notes about its grass-type starter Pokémon:
Instead of having a fierce demeanor, Chikorita seems soft-hearted. At first glance, it might appear to vigorously shake its leaf as a defensive measure against opponents. However, this action releases a soothing aroma from the leaf that not only pacifies fighting Pokémon but also generates a warm and inviting ambiance in the end.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A‘s Fire-Type Starter Pokémon Is Tepig
In the game “Pokémon Legends: Z-A”, Tepig stands out as the unique starter Pokémon, hailing from the games “Pokémon Black and White” which were launched in 2010 for the Nintendo DS. Consequently, Tepig originates from the Unova region, contrasting the other two starting Pokémon in “Pokémon Legends: Z-A”, who originate from Johto. Tepig has Pignite and Emboar as its two evolutionary forms. This small fire pig is orange and black with a curled tail that persists across all of its evolutions. Despite its porcine appearance, Tepig is incredibly swift and can launch fireballs from its nostrils. Moreover, due to its keen sense of smell, Tepig excels at locating food sources. Tepig starts evolving into Pignite at level 17, while it transforms into Emboar, its final form, at level 36 following the evolution. Interestingly, Tepig assumes a bipedal stance after its initial evolution.
The Pokémon Legends: Z-A webpage describes the fire-type starter Pokémon as follows:
Tepig appears more agile than one might initially think. This deceptive swiftness allows it to outmaneuver opponents, evading attacks skillfully while counterattacking with swift fireballs from its nostrils. When afflicted by a cold, however, it emits dark smoke instead of fire.
More About The Pokémon Legends: Z-A
