Similar to the previous Pokémon Legends game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A lets you choose starter Pokémon that aren’t native to the region. While Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile are good options, this game takes place in Kalos, so you might prefer to pick the local starters: Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie.
Luckily, you can find all three of these companions fairly early in the game, letting you add them to your team right away. Here’s where to find each one.
How to get Chespin – Legends ZA

Each of the three starter Pokémon from the Kalos region has its own side quest, and fortunately, you can start them fairly early in the game – right after finishing the first few side quests given by Emma during the main story.
Okay, so if you want to get Chespin, you’ll need to do side quest number 7, it’s called “A Feisty Chespin.” It’s actually pretty easy! You just have to battle Chespin three times in a row at level 14. I found that using a Fire-type Pokémon made the battles super quick. Once you win all three, Chespin joins your team – awesome!
How to get Fennekin – Legends ZA

In the side quest “Get Well, Fennekin” (quest #8), you’ll help a sick Fennekin. You’ll need to find an herbalist who can cure it, and he’ll ask you to collect a Revitalizing Twig from Wild Zone 5.
To reach the area, you’ll need a Water-type Pokémon to remove some muddy obstacles, revealing a hidden garden. It’s located across from where the quest markers are pointing. Continue clearing the mud along the stream, and you’ll enter a long tunnel that leads to the grove. Collect the twigs shown on the quest markers until you find the specific one you need.
Bring it back to Fennekin to cure them, and they’ll be added to your team.
How to get Froakie – Legends ZA

If you’re looking for a strong Pokémon, Froakie is a great choice right now because you can earn Greninjite by competing in Ranked Battles.
You can get Froakie by completing side quest #9, “A Challenge from Froakie.” This quest involves finishing three timed parkour courses built with scaffolding. The courses are generally easy, but the final one requires you to either roll or glide across a few gaps.
Beat all three and Froakie will join your team.
