
The Pokémon Company announced that Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version, updated versions of the original 1996 Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green games, will be available on Nintendo Switch on February 27, 2026. Originally released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance, these games are coming to Nintendo Switch as digital downloads to commemorate 30 years of Pokémon. Players will be able to download and play them on both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 after the Pokémon Presents presentation.
With Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen now available on Nintendo Switch, we’re starting to speculate about which other classic Pokémon games might come to the console next, and the possibility is really exciting!
For many fans, the original Pokémon Red and Green, as well as FireRed and LeafGreen, were their first adventures in the Pokémon universe. Even seeing the trailer for the Nintendo Switch versions brings back a flood of memories – and the music is fantastic! Now, both longtime fans and newcomers will be able to enjoy the charm of these classic games on Nintendo Switch. It’s a great experience for everyone.

We’re incredibly excited for Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen to potentially come to the Nintendo Switch! Until then, you can probably find us revisiting the original games on our old Game Boy Advances while humming the Pokémon theme.
