In the latest release, Monster Hunter Wilds, global gamers are immersing themselves in the Forbidden Realms. Yet, a significant number of PC players have voiced their concerns on Steam, as they’ve encountered a problem affecting game performance.
Regardless of the positive feedback from critics, such as our review on PS5, Monster Hunter Rise’s PC debut has sparked disagreement. Although it attracted over 1 million players on its first day and shattered player records, Capcom’s monster-hunting game is currently holding a “Mixed” rating on Steam.
As of February 28, the Monster Hunter Wilds Steam store page has over 8,000 negative reviews, balanced by just over 5,000 positive ones. While this isn’t reflective of the overall quality of the story or gameplay, PC players are having a tough time enjoying their time in the Forbidden Lands due to optimization, or lack thereof.
Monster Hunter Wilds PC players “poor” optimisation
For enthusiasts of Monster Hunter Wilds, performance issues have been a recurring topic. Back in September, computer gamers expressed apprehensions when Capcom disclosed the suggested hardware specifications necessary to operate Wilds smoothly at a resolution of 1080p and 60 frames per second.
Despite the beta and performance tests helping computer gamers evaluate their systems, many find the current launch version far from enjoyable.
One player expressed disappointment by stating, ‘This game is incredibly fantastic, yet it’s optimization is the worst I’ve encountered.’ This sentiment appears to be shared among many others.
It seems that modern games are increasingly challenging and may require upgrades. However, I find it hard to accept…I’m not implying the game is poor, but given its present condition, it might be wise to hold off for a more secure update before diving in.

Critics have also emerged among players with higher-than-recommended hardware, who find the game struggles significantly on their systems. For instance, one user commented that their 4070 Ti Super graphics card is barely able to handle this game, despite being capable of running more visually impressive titles at 4k resolution and 120 frames per second.
At its release, Monster Hunter Wilds wasn’t an exception when it comes to PC versions of the Monster Hunter series receiving complaints about performance optimization. In fact, similar criticisms were leveled against Monster Hunter World when it debuted in 2018. After addressing these optimisation issues, the game garnered a whopping 291,838 Very Positive reviews on Steam.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been experiencing some troubles with the PC performance of my favorite Capcom game. Unfortunately, they haven’t shared any official word on these issues just yet. However, I’ve found tweaking my Best PC FPS settings to be helpful in improving my gaming experience. Give it a try and see if it works for you too!
