Development is underway on Pirates of the Caribbean 6, and audiences are beginning to learn what to expect from the next installment in the popular adventure series.
Jeff Sneider reports that the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie will focus on Jack Sparrow’s son, and his story may tie into Margot Robbie’s character. Disney’s new executives are apparently very interested in this project, suggesting they want to continue the Pirates of the Caribbean series with new stories.
Krysty Wilson-Cairns, the writer of the film 1917, is being considered to write the script for a new project. If she signs on, it would represent a fresh approach for the series, which has gone through several attempts to create new movies and shows over the years.
Okay, so getting Pirates 6 made has been a bit of a saga. Disney initially planned to film the fifth and sixth movies one right after the other, but that didn’t pan out. We did get Dead Men Tell No Tales, but the sixth installment got put on hold. It’s been a winding road to get another Pirates movie off the ground, that’s for sure.
Throughout the development of the film, many different people were considered for roles in front of and behind the camera. Kaya Scodelario was signed on to return, and Orlando Bloom has said he’d like to play Will Turner again. However, Keira Knightley has confirmed she won’t be back, playfully suggesting her character had a perfect exit.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has consistently stated that several Pirates of the Caribbean projects are being developed. In 2024, he specified that Disney is working on both a complete restart of the series and a separate film starring Margot Robbie. He clarified that the reboot won’t feature the original characters, but didn’t rule out the possibility of Johnny Depp reprising his role in the future.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced in 2025 that the sixth movie would feature a mix of familiar actors and new cast members. He indicated Johnny Depp might return, stating, “If he’s happy with the script, I believe he would participate.”
The latest Pirates of the Caribbean film, spearheaded by Jerry Bruckheimer and likely starring Johnny Depp, is progressing with Disney’s backing. Christina Hodson, a screenwriter known for her action-packed work, is writing the script, suggesting the studio is aiming for a fresh, fast-paced adventure. While earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott contributed to the story, development was temporarily slowed by the 2023 writers’ strike.
The next Pirates of the Caribbean movie will mix familiar faces with new characters, focusing on Jack Sparrow’s son and a character played by Robbie. Viewers are eager to see how the film will combine the beloved elements of the past with a new story, and whether any of the original crew members will make an appearance.
This new direction has the potential to revitalize a series that’s gained a dedicated following, but also faced criticism. Casting Margot Robbie alongside a fresh, younger character is a clever move – it appeals to existing fans while attracting a new generation of viewers.
