‘Pinnacle Of The Power Of…’: Josh Brolin Lauds MCU Costar Robert Downey Jr’s Sobriety Journey Amid McNeal Reunion

As an ardent fan who has witnessed the metamorphosis of Hollywood stars, I am simply awestruck by the resilience and talent of Robert Downey Jr. His journey from the depths of addiction to the heights of success is nothing short of inspiring. The latest chapter in his extraordinary saga is his Broadway debut in “McNeal,” a testament to his unwavering dedication and versatility as an actor.

More recently, Josh Brolin publicly commended his long-standing friend Robert Downey Jr., who is currently involved in a Broadway show, one of Downey’s latest endeavors. On October 18th, Brolin posted on Instagram to applaud Downey’s performance and recognize the remarkable strides he has made in overcoming addiction.

In a celebration held at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York City, the star of The Avengers: Infinity War took note of the remarkable acting skills demonstrated by his fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe cast member. Robert Downey Jr., portraying the central character Jacob McNeal, is a writer struggling with an obsessive interest in artificial intelligence, a distant relationship with his son, and a fresh literary project.

56-year-old Brolin posted a photo with Downey Jr., 59, along with some other individuals following the show, which included video game creator Donald Mustard and directors Anthony and Joe Russo. In a heartfelt manner, Brolin commended Downey’s “extraordinary” acting skills while expressing respect for his battles against addiction.

He wrote, “Thanks, Downey, for continuing to find the most soul-challenging roads in sobriety. You are a pinnacle of the power of example of how to ultimately best live what this life can provide. Love you, pal.”

In 2019, these two teamed up again for Avengers: Endgame. They had previously appeared together in other Avengers movies too, such as Infinity War from 2018 and Age of Ultron back in 2015. Throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they were involved in some significant scenes. Robert Downey Jr.’s character became iconic as Iron Man, while Josh Brolin portrayed Thanos.

During the month of September 30, Robert Downey Jr. stepped onto Broadway for the first time in McNeal. This production is directed by Bartlett Sher, a winner of the Tony Award, and is based on the novel penned by Pulitzer Prize laureate Ayad Akhtar. The play has been drawing attention with many notable figures, including Johnny Depp, expressing appreciation for Downey’s performance. Depp publicly expressed his admiration after catching the show early in October this year.

Orphaned by the Sea (Pirates of the Caribbean) star shared on Instagram his admiration for Robert Downey Jr., expressing, “Lucky beyond words to catch a glimpse of my talented friend Bob Downey and the exceptional cast of ‘McNeal’ last night.” He also recommended his fans to catch the play.

Robert Downey Jr.’s McNeal will be staged at the Lincoln Center Theater until November 24.
