Middle-earth is returning to the big screen in epic fashion.
To mark the 25th anniversary of The Fellowship of the Ring, Fathom Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures are bringing The Lord of the Rings trilogy back to movie theaters this January. Director Peter Jackson will also be participating with special introductions for fans.

Peter Jackson Returns with Exclusive Intros
Peter Jackson, the director who won an Academy Award, has created new introductions for the Extended Editions of all three Lord of the Rings films: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King.
These special introductions were created just for the Fathom event and will play in movie theaters before each film begins.
Peter Jackson shares his memories of making each Lord of the Rings film, discussing the difficulties of adapting J.R.R. Tolkien’s world and the powerful experience of seeing the movies on the big screen. A short preview of Jackson’s introduction to The Fellowship of the Ring is available on the Fathom Events website.

Record-Breaking Ticket Sales
The event is proving to be incredibly popular, already breaking previous records. Over 400,000 tickets have been sold, generating more than $5 million domestically. Presales are currently 65% higher than the company’s previous best for similar events earlier this year.
Because so many people want to see it and previous showings have sold out, Fathom and theaters across the country are adding more showtimes and opening it up to even more locations.
Re-Release Schedule
Okay, so get this – they’re bringing all three Extended Editions back to the big screen in January 2026! It’s happening over two weekends, and if you’re lucky enough to live near a participating theater, they’ll even have special DBOX showings – which, as a movie buff, I have to experience!
- The Fellowship of the Ring: January 16 & 23 (Fridays)
- The Two Towers: January 17 & 24 (Saturdays)
- The Return of the King: January 18 & 25 (Sundays)
Tickets are available now at FathomEvents.com and participating box offices.

Exclusive Collectibles for Fans
Special limited-edition concession collectibles will be available at select theater chains:
- AMC Theatres: A Collectible Map Tin with a Quest Magnet Set
- Regal and Independent Theatres: A “One Ring” Design Collectible Vessel
I’m so excited about these collectibles, but just a heads-up – they’re only available as long as the theaters have them in stock! If you want one, I’d recommend checking with your local cinema ASAP to see if they have any and if there’s a limit to how many you can buy.
The Legacy of The Lord of the Rings
I’m still amazed by Peter Jackson’s incredible movies based on Tolkien’s stories! The six films – The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies – have earned over $6 billion worldwide and unbelievably won 17 Oscars, making it the most celebrated movie series ever!
In 2021, the Library of Congress recognized The Fellowship of the Ring as culturally important and added it to the U.S. National Film Registry.
Warner Bros. plans to continue the story of The Lord of the Rings with a new film, The Hunt for Gollum, which is scheduled to come out on December 17, 2027.
