Peter Dinklage’s Toxic Avenger Finally Gets Theatrical Release Date!

According to the official information, it appears that Cineverse is the toxic antidote our world needs, as suggested by the statement “A World of Toxins Needs a Toxic Savior.

It’s exciting to hear that the film adaptation of “The Toxic Avenger” starring Peter Dinklage, which was postponed last summer, will now have a theatrical release date set.

I can’t contain my excitement! As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to announce that The Toxic Avenger is set for an unrated wide release on my calendar: August 29, 2025 – marking the perfect start to Labor Day weekend!

In summary, Cineverse, the company behind Bloody Disgusting which successfully launched Terrifier 3, has obtained the rights for U.S. and Canadian screenings, home video releases, and streaming access to The Toxic Avenger following a deal with Legendary Entertainment (as reported by Deadline).

What happened?

The remake of “The Toxic Avenger” was put on hold during the summer, with whispers suggesting it wasn’t fit for release. Yet, those who viewed the movie at horror film festivals have had positive comments to make. Currently, the film boasts a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after receiving 25 reviews.

Based on the feedback from critics, it appears that the remake of The Toxic Avenger has been well-received due to its willingness to embrace its absurdity. It offers a blood-soaked, excessively dramatic, and hugely enjoyable viewing experience. Critics particularly admire Peter Dinklage’s commitment, the film’s practical effects, and its unique blend of outrageous humor with an unexpected emotional depth. Notably, fans of the original Troma film and those who appreciate quirky, unconventional cinema are likely to find its unrestrained, chaotic entertainment appealing.

Peter Dinklage wanted a release

Back in July of last year, Dinklage stated he still hoped it would get a release:

I’m not involved as a producer, but I don’t know much about it. However, given that it was a huge success at Fantastic Fest in Austin, I really hope it gets more exposure. Macon Blair, the writer and director who is also known for The Thicket, is simply amazing – he’s one of my favorite people and artists. So here’s hoping it basks in the limelight.

What is The Toxic Avenger about?

The previously released official synopsis offers:

In a fresh take, the legendary character known for brandishing a mop is resurrected by filmmaker Macon Blair in the movie titled “The Toxic Avenger“. This production by Legendary Entertainment is a modern adaptation of Troma Entertainment’s 1984 comedic action classic, “The Toxic Avenger“, conceived by genre maestro, Lloyd Kaufman.

The film unfolds around the life of ordinary janitor Winston Gooze, who undergoes a horrific toxic accident that triggers a new form of heroism: THE TOXIC AVENGER! Equipped with superhuman strength and using an unusual weapon – a glowing mop, he embarks on a race-against-time mission to save his son and halt a merciless and power-hungry corporate tycoon who aims to exploit toxic powers to reinforce his polluted domain.
