What is The Toxic Avenger about?
The movie centers around Dinklage’s character, the humble janitor Winston Gooze, who unfortunately experiences a disastrous toxic spill, leading to his remarkable transformation as THE TOXIC AVENGER, an extraordinary new type of hero!
As a cinema enthusiast, I find myself gripped by a tale where I’m the one wielding a radiant broom with an uncanny might. The clock is ticking as I sprint against time to rescue my beloved son and thwart a merciless despot yearning for power, who aims to exploit sinister superpowers to fortify his corrupted realm.
In a different rendition: Elijah Wood takes on the role of Fritz Garbinger, a malevolent character, while Kevin Bacon portrays his brother, powerful corporate figure Bob Garbinger. They command a ruthless group known as the Killer Nutz, which is made up of both killers and musicians.
Apart from Taylour Paige’s role, she will portray JJ Doherty, a character who embodies both investigative journalist and vigilante detective traits. Meanwhile, Jacob Tremblay has been cast as Wade, Dinklage’s stepson, who is endearing but struggles with anxiety, which is exacerbated by his strained relationship with his new father figure.
In the movie, Macon Blair both writes and directs, while Sarah Niles, Julian Kostov, and Jane Levy take on acting roles.
The Toxic Avenger synopsis:
In a fresh new take, the beloved character makes his comeback on the silver screen under the direction of filmmaker Macon Blair, as “The Toxic Avenger” returns in the movie produced by Legendary Entertainment. This modern adaptation is a humorous and action-packed homage to the 1984 classic from Troma Entertainment, which was brought to life by genre legend Lloyd Kaufman.
This ensemble brings together a stellar cast, which boasts Emmy, Critics Choice, Independent Spirit, BAFTA, and SAG award winners. The group features Peter Dinklage from “Game of Thrones” and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”, Jacob Tremblay known for “Room” and “Luca”, Taylour Paige starring in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “Zola”, Julia Davis recognized for “Sally4Ever”, “Nighty Night”, and “Run Rabbit Run”, Jonny Coyne from “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, Elijah Wood famous for “The Lord of the Rings” series and “Yellowjackets”, and Kevin Bacon, well-known for “City on A Hill” and “Footloose”.
The movie unfolds the tale of Winston Gooze, an ordinary janitor facing hardships, who undergoes a terrible toxic spill transformation into THE TOXIC AVENGER – a unique type of hero. Empowered with superhuman strength and armed with a radiant mop as his unusual weapon, he embarks on a time-bound mission to rescue his son and thwart a merciless, power-greedy corporate tycoon who seeks to exploit toxic abilities to bolster his polluted domain.
In a twist of cinematic fate, I found myself immersed in the directorial masterpiece of none other than Macon Blair, who penned the script himself, inspired by Lloyd Kaufman’s 1984 cult classic “The Toxic Avenger.” This film is a joint production of heavyweights such as Mary Parent and Alex Garcia, with the indomitable duo of Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz also lending their expertise. The executive producers are Andrew Pfeffer, Jay Ashenfelter, and yours truly, Macon Blair. Mark Bennett and Julie Harkin were responsible for the impressive casting decisions that brought this unique tale to life on the silver screen.
In the creative team behind Blair’s work, we find Emmy-winning cinematographer Dana Gonzalez, production designer Alexander Cameron, editors Brett W. Bachman and James Thomas, visual effects supervisor Chris Ritvo, costume designer Vanessa Porter, and musical duo Will Blair and Brooke Blair providing the tunes.
