It’s not unexpected that Persona 5 Royal (P5X) emphasizes Makoto, a beloved character among fans, by making her one of the game’s strongest characters. However, to fully unleash her potential, you need to develop her properly. Queen, her attack, is potent and primarily targets single enemies. Her strikes are so powerful they can even shatter the toughest opponents, and she exploits elemental ailments to inflict additional damage.
Let’s analyze the optimal strategy for using Queen in P5X, covering which characters make great teammates for her and highlighting her top Revelation Cards.
All Queen skills and abilities in P5X
Johanna Skills
- Sanctioned Drift – Deal Nuclear damage to foes equal to 54.4% of Attack (5 hits). From the second hit, prioritize new targets and change damage to 20% for hits on the same target. Also inflict a random elemental ailment on the target of each hit, prioritizing inflicting ones the target doesn’t have. If the target has an elemental ailment, activate a Technical and deal bonus Nuclear damage equal to 19.2% of Attack. Inflict Radiation on the main target for 2 turns.
- President’s Power – Restore HP of 1 ally equal to 34.6% of Makoto’s Attack + 113. Increase Makoto’s Attack by 32.0% for 2 turns. Gain 3 Tenacity stacks and gain more Tenacity stacks for each unique elemental ailment on foes.
- Nuclear Fury – Deal Nuclear damage to 1 foe equal to 138.1% of Attack and gain 2 Tenacity stacks. If the main target has an elemental ailment, activate a Technical, dealing bonus Nuclear damage equal to 25.6% of Attack. When Crash Out is active, evolve this skill to Thermonuclear Fury.
- Themonuclear Fury – Deal Nuclear damage to 1 foe equal to 159.7% of Attack. For each elemental ailment the foe has, activate a Technical, dealing bonus Nuclear damage equal to 22.4% of Attack (up to 3 times).

What do Tenacity and Crash Out do?
Tenacity and “Breakthrough” are exclusive abilities that Queen possesses. She earns one Tenacity each time she successfully lands a Persona skill attack on an enemy, and receives an additional Tenacity at the end of her turn for every ailment (such as status effects caused by elemental attacks) she inflicts upon an opponent.
If Queen initially has 5 or more Tenacity points, she triggers Crash Out during her turn. This enhancement boosts her Attack by 40% and Defense by 20%, and upgrades her Nuclear Fury ability into the stronger Thermonuclear Fury.
How to use Queen in P5X
Use Sanctioned Drift Turn 1
For Queen to work efficiently, enemies should have elemental weaknesses. It’s ideal if other party members can handle this task before Queen takes action, but Sanctioned Drift allows her to do it independently. If successful, you’ll accumulate 5 Tenacity stacks by Turn 2.
Use President’s Power before powerful attacks
Setting up the fundamental ailments is beneficial, but be cautious not to overplay your hand too soon for a greater advantage. The move “Crash Out” allows Nuclear Fury to evolve twice into Thermonuclear Fury, so if you anticipate this, use President’s Power one turn prior to grant Queen a 32% Attack boost.
Use Thermonuclear Fury whenever available
As a gamer, I can’t stress enough how crucial it is to utilize this skill when available. It’s one of the strongest offensive Persona abilities in the game, and once Crash Out is activated, you only get two chances to use it. Even if there are multiple enemies, the sheer power of this single-target attack makes it worthwhile. Especially if the rest of your party has successfully set up ailments on the foes you’re aiming for. Don’t let those turns go to waste!
Best team composition for Queen in P5X
- Queen
- Vino
- Leon
- Okyann
In the P5X game, Vino and Okyann are essential additions to your team if you’re focusing on Queen. Vino excels at inflicting elemental ailments more frequently than Queen, while Leon provides general attack boosts for his party. However, you might opt for Mirian if you require healing or Panther for an additional strong attacker instead of Leon. Okyann, on the other hand, is ideal for Navigator due to her ability to enhance Attack and Ailment Accuracy, which is crucial when working with a Nuke-based team.
