The movie adaptation of Emily Henry’s popular novel, People We Meet On Vacation, premiered on January 9, 2026. Starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth as the main characters, Poppy and Alex, the film tells the story of two people who clearly belong together, but keep finding ways to stay apart.
People We Meet On Vacation Storyline
The story centers around Poppy, a carefree travel blogger and magazine writer, and Alex, a more grounded English teacher in a small town. Though they lead very different lives, they spend many summers together and discover how they complement each other – he offers her a sense of stability, while she brings excitement to his world. They ultimately realize that, despite their differences, they’re a perfect match.
People We Meet On Vacation Ending
Alex recently ended his relationship with Sarah, realizing that his feelings for Poppy might have contributed to its failure. He hopes to be with Poppy, and they reconnect at his brother David’s wedding, where they admit their strong feelings for each other. However, they quickly clash over their differing life goals – Poppy wants to travel the world, while Alex dreams of settling down and starting a family. Despite their connection, these opposing desires create a rift, and they ultimately decide to go their separate ways, both unwilling to compromise.
Meeting Sarah unexpectedly helped Poppy sort out her feelings about Alex. She realized that while she’d said she didn’t want to settle down, she actually hated feeling lonely. Ultimately, she understood her feelings for Alex were much stronger than she’d thought, and she went after him, determined to make things official.
I was so thrilled to see them finally make plans for the future! The movie wrapped up with them settled in their own place in New York, both chasing their individual dreams. What I loved most was how they really saw each other, prioritizing the relationship but also staying true to who they are. It felt so real and hopeful.
