Penn Badgley, known for his role in ‘You,’ recently shared the painful experience he and his wife, Domino Kirke, went through after suffering two miscarriages. He explained on the ‘Totally Booked’ podcast that these losses were so difficult they considered splitting up. Fortunately, they worked through it and now have a blended family, raising three children together, including Domino’s son from a previous relationship.
Penn Badgley, known for his role in Gossip Girl, recently shared his thoughts on miscarriages and the impact they have on couples. He emphasized how common they are and stressed the need for more open conversations about the topic. He explained that miscarriages are often incredibly painful, and that pain is almost universally experienced, even if not always fully acknowledged.
In his book, Crushmore, he shared that he and his wife almost split up after experiencing repeated miscarriages. They felt incredibly alone because society doesn’t often discuss these kinds of losses or offer much support to those who are grieving. He described how the experience deeply affected him, and the trauma would return whenever he saw a sonogram.
The actor and his wife now have a busy household with four children: a four-year-old son, twins, and his stepson. He jokingly said that he wrote something about feeling a sense of loss before the twins arrived, and now finds it amusing – though he says it with affection – to think about that feeling, given how many kids are currently running around. He admits to sometimes feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of children in his life.
Penn Badgley shared that because he doesn’t have any children of his own, and his wife already had a son, Cassius, it influenced how they dealt with their miscarriages and how they viewed the situation as a couple.
