So, Peloton. Still a thing, apparently. Down 25.72% today. Twenty-five point seven two percent! You know what that means? People are realizing spending five thousand dollars on a stationary bike that yells at them isn’t the answer to their problems. Who knew? The volume was up, though. 90.3 million shares traded. Ninety. Three. Million. That’s a lot of regret being processed in real-time. And they IPO’d in 2019. 2019! It’s down 83% since then. Eighty-three! It’s like they tried to lose money. I mean, the audacity.
The Market’s Mood, or Lack Thereof
The S&P 500 went down 1.20%. One point two zero. Like anyone actually cares. And the Nasdaq? Down 1.59%. Honestly, it’s all just numbers shuffling around. Lululemon was down too, 4.44%. Four point four four. See, even the yoga people are feeling the pinch. It’s a cascade of disappointment, really. A slow-motion economic shrug.
What Does It All Mean?
Rough quarter for Peloton. “Rough” is putting it mildly. Sales down 3%. Earnings…negative. Negative! They missed expectations. Of course they did. It’s like they deliberately set the bar low, then tripped over it. And the guidance for 2026? They were off by a measly $60 million. Sixty million dollars! It’s not chump change. And the CFO is leaving. After four years. Four years of…what, exactly? Trying to make sense of this whole debacle? Good for him, frankly.
Okay, they did manage to increase gross margins by 320 basis points. Three hundred and twenty basis points. Which, let’s be honest, sounds impressive until you remember they’re still losing money. They’re generating cash, though. A little. And their commercial business is up 10%. Ten percent! They’re selling bikes to gyms. Now that’s a business model. And these “microstores” are doing well. Eight times the sales per square foot. Fine. But I bet the coffee shop next door is still doing better. They’re at 0.7 times sales. Which means…what? It’s cheap? I don’t know. I’m not buying it. Not yet. I need to see some actual, sustained growth. Some genuine, unadulterated, upward momentum. And I’m not holding my breath.
