In the movie ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, there’s a question about who will unite the two teams, Captain Sam Wilson/Captain America-led and Yelena Belova-led, to fight Doctor Doom. According to director Matt Shakman of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, that role falls to Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, as suggested in his interview with Variety.
He transitions from a secluded scientist engrossed in lab work, into a devoted spouse and parent willing to go to great lengths for family safety, eventually emerging as the one commanding the Avengers team.
It’s not unprecedented in Marvel Comics for Mr. Fantastic, a member of the Fantastic Four, to lead Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. This scenario has roots in the late 80s when many Avengers left following a series of turmoil. In the comic “Avengers” #300 from 1988, Steve Rogers assembled a new team consisting of himself, Thor, Gilgamesh (a character you might recognize from Eternals), and both Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman. At that time, Reed Richards and Susan Storm had taken a break from the Fantastic Four to focus on parenting their son Franklin. However, they soon returned to active duty upon Captain America’s request. Although Captain America was the field leader, it was evident that Reed was the mastermind behind the scenes.
Doomsday premieres in December 2026.
