Pedro Pascal Speaks Out on Free Speech After Jimmy Kimmel Backlash

Pedro Pascal has publicly backed Jimmy Kimmel after ABC paused his late-night talk show. The show was suspended following a monologue on September 15th that sparked controversy due to Kimmel’s criticism of how supporters of MAGA reacted to the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Jimmy Kimmel criticized the response to the shooting involving Charlie Kirk, stating that supporters of Donald Trump, or the ‘MAGA gang,’ were attempting to distance themselves from the shooter and exploit the situation for political gain.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr criticized Jimmy Kimmel’s comments, calling them deeply disturbing and suggesting the agency could potentially take action against Disney.

Shortly after that, two large groups of local TV stations, Nexstar and Sinclair, decided to stop broadcasting Jimmy Kimmel’s show on their ABC channels. ABC confirmed the show was suspended indefinitely, and reports suggest this decision came from Disney leaders Dana Walden and CEO Bob Iger.

Pedro Pascal used Instagram to publicly support Jimmy Kimmel. He posted, “Standing with you, Jimmy Kimmel Live!” along with the messages “Defend free speech” and “defend democracy.”

Pascal isn’t alone in voicing concerns. Tatiana Maslany asked fans to cancel their Disney+ and Hulu memberships, and Marisa Tomei, known for her role as Aunt May in Marvel movies, also encouraged people to drop subscriptions to Disney services like Marvel, ABC, and ESPN.

Tatiana Maslany was in *She-Hulk: Attorney at Law*, but it’s currently unknown what she’ll be doing with Disney in the future.

This issue has ignited a conversation about freedom of expression, the impact of large corporations, and the considerable power held by major media organizations. Many well-known actors are speaking out in support of Jimmy Kimmel and criticizing Disney’s choice.
