Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey’s The Last of Us Proves Global Popularity as Season 2 Premiere Grabs 150 Percent Jump

On Sunday evening, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey’s post-apocalyptic blockbuster drew a massive audience with its second season debut. The premiere of The Last of Us Season 2 garnered over 5.3 million viewers on HBO’s television network and streaming platform Max.

In comparison to the debut of its first season in January 2023, which attracted 4.7 million viewers, the second season of the show has seen a significant increase, boasting a viewership of 13% more, thereby securing a triumph for HBO.

As reported by Variety, the overall viewership is calculated using a combination of Nielsen’s audience ratings for HBO and internal streaming data from Warner Bros. Discovery. This suggests a growing level of interest in the critically-acclaimed season.

The second season has attracted numerous viewers, many of whom are revisiting the original series in order to delve deeper into its background, as there’s been a 150% increase in viewings compared to the growth seen only a week earlier.

Initially, The Last of Us gained significant popularity and recognition as a blockbuster hit upon its release. The series went on to become HBO’s second-largest premiere in more than ten years, and it continued to set new records with a massive surge in viewership. Over the course of 90 days, the average number of viewers per season skyrocketed to an astonishing 32 million.

In the second season of The Last of Us, we find Joel and Ellie five years down the line, grappling with deep emotional rifts and a world that’s grown progressively more perilous.

This season, Joel and Ellie’s shared past comes back to haunt them, leading them into disagreements and confrontations with each other as well as a world that is both treacherous and unstable, surpassing the perils they initially left behind, as hinted by HBO.

The series features Pedro Pascal portraying Joel Miller, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Isabela Merced as Dina, along with several others. These seven episodes are set to premiere on HBO, and they will also be accessible for streaming on Max.
