As a die-hard fan with a soft spot for gritty British dramas and a penchant for Cillian Murphy’s captivating performances, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming Peaky Blinders film! After immersing myself in six gripping seasons on Netflix, I eagerly await to see Tommy Shelby and his gang navigate through new challenges.
Production on Peaky Blinders has started, and at the same time, Netflix released a first glimpse of Cillian Murphy as head honcho Tommy Shelby of the Birmingham gang. The mastermind behind the successful, enduring series Steven Knight penned the script, while Tom Harper, who’s directed multiple episodes, will be in charge of directing the movie.
Back in 2013, I stumbled upon this captivating series that first graced BBC Two’s screens. Fast forward, it found its way onto Netflix, expanding its reach and becoming one of their most adored shows. Last year, we bid farewell as its sixth and concluding season aired, and just recently, we learned that a feature film is in the pipeline.
It appears that Tommy Shelby wasn’t done working with me, as the actor stated at the time. I’m delighted to once again collaborate with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the movie adaptation of ‘Peaky Blinders.’ This one’s definitely for the fans.
Despite the series potentially marking a breakout moment for Murphy, he is embarking on the film’s production as an Oscar-winning actor – a title he earned through his exceptional portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb, in Christopher Nolan’s historical epic “Oppenheimer,” for which he received an Oscar.
Alongside Knight, Caryn Mandabach, and Guy Heeley, Murphy is jointly producing the film. Executive producers for the project include Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason. While details about the film’s cast remain under wraps, it was recently disclosed that Barry Keoghan, another Irish actor, will appear in an unspecified role, as well as Rebecca Ferguson, known for her work in Dune.
Keoghan recently shared his enthusiasm with Collider, expressing that he’s thrilled about the exceptional script and working alongside Cillian Murphy and Rebecca Hall. The storyline is said to revolve around the Shelby family as they navigate a series of significant changes, including radical, social, and political upheavals brought on by their growing fame.
