I’m so excited – they’ve officially started filming the new Peaky Blinders series! It’s a sequel set in the 1950s and will follow the Shelby family’s story. This week, the crew started shooting right here in Stoke-on-Trent, taking over the beautiful Queen’s Theatre in Burslem. Kudos, the team behind shows like ‘This Town’ and ‘SAS Rogue Heroes’, are producing it, so I know it’s going to be amazing!
Filming began inside the theater on March 4th, taking advantage of its classic design to capture the look and feel of the 1950s. The next day, production shifted to the surrounding streets, where the crew transformed the area into post-war Birmingham with vintage cars and props. People who lived nearby were among the first to see the series being filmed, as the production had been largely kept secret.
As a huge Peaky Blinders fan, I’m thrilled to hear they’re continuing the story! It sounds like the new series jumps ahead to 1953, picking up after the events of the upcoming movie, ‘The Immortal Man,’ which is set during the war and comes out on Netflix in March 2026. This time around, we’ll be following the next generation of Shelbys as they try to make their mark on a Birmingham that’s rebuilding after the war. From what I’ve read, it’s all about the city rising from the rubble of the Blitz and the intense fight to control the reconstruction projects – and, naturally, the Shelbys are right in the middle of it all.
The show is being filmed in two parts, each with six episodes. The first part is expected to be released on Netflix around mid-to-late 2027. We’ve already seen some first looks at the new actors, including Cal O’Driscoll, Fintan Shevlin, and Jacob Wright. Filming is primarily taking place at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham.
Steven Knight, the creator of the show, has always loved filming in Stoke-on-Trent. Previous seasons used locations like the Queen’s Theatre and Middleport Pottery in Burslem. The new series will keep the same dark and intense mood that viewers enjoy, but will focus on a different time period for the Shelby family.
As a total film fanatic, I’m really excited because this movie feels like a perfect doorway into a 1950s story. It’s going to show us how the Shelby family’s story keeps going, set against the backdrop of a city trying to recover after the war.
