As an ardent fan of both Peaches and Marie Losier, I am beyond ecstatic about the upcoming documentary, “Peaches Goes Bananas“. Having followed Peaches’ extraordinary journey from the underground scene to the mainstream, it is truly fascinating to see her story unfold through the lens of a dear friend like Losier.
Friend for Life shares a sneak peek of Marie Losier’s upcoming documentary starring Merrill Nisker, famously known as Peaches. The movie delves into Peaches’ journey to stardom, her relationship with sister Suri, creative methods, and her influence within the queer music scene. Titled “Peaches Goes Bananas,” the film will make its debut at the Venice Days sidebar, a parallel event to the main film festival.
The movie is crafted from the long-standing friendship between Losier and Nisker. In a statement, Nisker stated that her relationship with the documentary’s director was “unique” from their very first meeting. She further explained, “From the moment Marie and I met, there was a unique connection — a sense of comfort, joy, creativity, and understanding.”
She additionally discussed Losier’s distinctive approach to cinematography and hinted at some genuine and touching instances caught on camera within the movie. “I hold dear those precious moments immortalized on film, particularly given the loss of my sister and father,” she further stated.
In the meantime, Losier found Peaches to be a source of inspiration due to her embodiment of art and admired her “unforced and genuine” way of life. Speaking about her in an interview, the director expressed that as he grows older, it’s inspiring for him to witness Peaches maintaining her beauty and staying active, constantly exploring and interacting with her audience.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but sing praises for Loizer’s masterpieces that have left critics spellbound. Among these, “The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye” and “Cassandro El Exotico!” stand out as my favorites. The former was honored with the coveted Teddy Award at the 2011 Berlinale, while the latter triumphantly took home the prestigious Cannes Award in the ACID section in 2018.
The movie is being created by Carole Chassaing of Tamara Films, Sébastien Andres and Alice Lemaire from Michigan Films. In France, it will be distributed by Norte Distribution, while Galeries Distribution will handle it in Belgium. International distribution, however, will be managed by Best Friend Forever company.
