PEACEMAKER’s Sasha Bordeaux Reveals Comics-Inspired Superpowers

I was really surprised during episode five of Peacemaker when they revealed Sasha Bordeaux is actually a cyborg! Sol Rodriguez is doing a great job with the role, and honestly, for a while it seemed like her character wasn’t much like the Sasha Bordeaux from the comics – they both work for a government agency, but that was about it. But this cyborg thing? That’s straight out of the comics! It makes so much more sense now, and I’m starting to wonder if we’ll see some connections to Batman and the wider DC Universe. It’s a really cool twist and I’m excited to see where they take her character next.

Sasha Bordeaux’s Origins in Batman Comics

Sasha Bordeaux was introduced in the comic book Detective Comics #751 in 2000. Created by Greg Rucka and Shawn Martinbrough, she’s a former Secret Service agent who transitioned to working as a private security contractor. Lucius Fox, the CEO of WayneCorp, hired her to protect Bruce Wayne. In the comics, unlike the The Dark Knight movies, Fox didn’t know Bruce was Batman at first. Bruce tries to keep his double life a secret from Bordeaux, but she’s a skilled agent and soon figures out where he goes at night.

After learning a secret, Batman begins to seriously train Sasha. They start patrolling Gotham together and eventually fall in love. However, Bruce Wayne continues to date other people, including Selina Kyle. The story takes a dramatic turn when Bruce is falsely accused of murder by an assassin named David Cain, and Sasha is also caught up in the investigation and arrested. This all happens in the 2002 storyline, “Bruce Wayne: Murderer,” which was published across the various *Batman* comic books. While Sasha is in jail, she’s attacked and nearly killed, but is rescued by the government organization Checkmate. They stage her death and recruit her as one of their own agents.

Sasha Bordeux Becomes a Cyborg During Infinite Crisis

Now working for Checkmate, she breaks things off with Bruce, though she still cares for him. Despite this, she secretly shares government information with him that could disrupt the superhero world. During the *Infinite Crisis* of 2005, an OMAC drone attacks and impales her, but instead of killing her, the drone’s programming transforms her into a cyborg. Using her new powers, she assists Batman and the Justice League in stopping the OMAC army and rises to become the Black Queen within Checkmate. As the Black Queen, she begins a romantic relationship with her colleague, the hero Mister Terrific.

The DCU Future of Sasha Bordeaux

It’s now confirmed that Sasha Bordeaux is a cyborg in *Peacemaker*. Her leadership role at A.R.G.U.S. is similar to her position in the Checkmate comics, leaving fans wondering how much of her comic book history will carry over into James Gunn’s DC Universe. The show reveals she was severely injured in a plane crash and rebuilt with mechanical parts – though it’s jokingly speculated the plane might have been owned by WayneCorp. There’s a possibility she previously had a romantic relationship with the DCU’s Batman, whose identity is still a mystery, and perhaps even with Mister Terrific, a character from *Superman*. With more surprises planned for the rest of *Peacemaker* season two, we’ll likely learn more about how this version of Sasha Bordeaux connects to other well-known DC heroes – or if she does at all.

Peacemaker season two drops new episodes every Thursday on HBO Max.
