Peacemaker Season 2 Opens Strong With 22% Boost in Viewership

James Gunn’s Peacemaker Season 2 is off to a strong start on HBO Max.

Based on Samba TV’s report, the initial four days of the new season attracted approximately 22% more American households than the Season 1 finale did at the end of 2022.

Early Digital Release of Superman May Have Helped

Among the key points of interest leading up to the new season was whether making James Gunn’s Superman available for digital release earlier would boost ratings for Peacemaker.

The numbers do suggest it might have.

After the release of Superman, which many people are still discussing and can watch on-demand, it seems that audiences have transitioned smoothly from James Gunn’s DCU momentum directly into Peacemaker.

If anything, the bump in viewership does show fans are excited for Gunn’s DCU.

A Win for Gunn’s DCU Strategy

The rising audience numbers can equally be interpreted as a favorable indication for Gunn’s unique approach, which not only has the potential to integrate his theatrical presentations with streaming content but also provides an opportunity to explore mature humor and adult themes in Peacemaker, all while remaining connected to the larger DC Universe.

What Comes Next

If audience support remains strong, “Peacemaker” has potential to emerge as a standout series on HBO Max, contributing further to the evolution of the DC Universe after “Creature Commandos,” and although independent from it, Matt Reeves’ “The Penguin.

Intriguingly hinted at during the first episode of Season 2, the multiverse concept might keep viewers hooked as they anticipate the forthcoming episodes.

You can read my review here for the first episode, which I liked a lot.
