In the second installment of “Peacemaker,” the concept of DC’s multiverse is employed, but not in the traditional sense of a multiverse narrative. Instead, it delves into the concept known as “parallel realities” or “forking paths,” showcasing how one man’s life can drastically change based on small decisions made at critical junctures. This is personified by John Cena’s character, Christopher Smith, who grapples with the stark contrast between the lives he could have led after saving the world in season one of “Peacemaker.” However, the world remains indifferent to his heroic actions, continuing to view him as a joke. This disheartening reality is mirrored in the other members of the 11th Street Kids, who find themselves adrift or struggling with personal issues.
In essence, throughout his career, Gunn consistently portrays friendship in an accurate light. Unlike some filmmakers might do in Peacemaker‘s second season, Gunn doesn’t let the new season introduce conflict among friends only to have them reconnect later on. Instead, the friendships within the 11th Street Kids feel genuine because they remain close and rely on each other throughout their journey together. Their enduring bond provides a strong foundation for the show in its second season, making it even more poignant and heart-wrenching than its first.
The second season of Peacemaker stands out due to its clear focus and cohesion, with each main character’s narrative serving to reinforce the show’s central theme. This theme revolves around our own identities-who we are, who we could have become, who we aspire to be, alternate lives we might have lived, and the influences that shaped our eventual destinies. Peacemaker season 2 is a captivating superhero series featuring an under-the-radar comic book character, brimming with profound and layered reflections on life. It’s been a while since I’ve seen such thoughtful use of the multiverse concept in any medium. Instead of merely employing the multiverse as a whimsical plot element, Peacemaker season 2 utilizes it to explore its thematic depth.
A LEGO Makeover for Peacemaker’s Opening Credits, But the Show Remains a Bloody, Entertaining Riot
The opening credits for Peacemaker’s second season have been given a fun and quirky makeover with a LEGO version. Despite this change, the show continues to deliver the same intense, action-packed, and humorous content that fans loved in the first season. The addition of Tim Meadows brings even more laughter, making it difficult for his co-stars to keep a straight face during filming.
Peacemaker’s second season also includes adult content, so it is not suitable for young audiences or family viewing. Viewer discretion is advised.
John Cena shines in the lead role of Christopher Smith. His performance in this season is his best work to date, demonstrating a level of depth and emotion that was not present even in the first season. His portrayal of the character is both moving and heartbreaking.
While the show is mostly well-received by critics who were given access to the first five episodes, it does have some minor flaws. One issue is an overabundance of a comedic Michael Rooker character, who plays someone so dumb that less screen time would be more effective. Another concern is the lack of Vigilante, a fan-favorite character from season one whose absence in the early episodes of season two is noticeable and disappointing.
However, it seems that the show’s creators have intentionally underutilized Vigilante in order to build towards an exciting and impactful storyline later in the season. If this proves to be true, then Peacemaker’s second season will likely address both of these concerns and deliver a satisfying conclusion.
Overall, despite some minor imperfections, Peacemaker’s second season is living up to fans’ expectations and delivering the same intense, action-packed, and humorous content that made the first season a success.

Mikey Walsh, a writer for TopMob, has such strong devotion to Vigilante that it seems he would sacrifice himself, even if Vigilante were the one causing his demise. You can find him on Bluesky under the handle @burgermike. Additionally, he is often recognized in lists ranking the Targaryen kings.
