After spending several months being exclusive to the PlayStation 5, Stellar Blade has now made its way onto personal computers. The highly-anticipated hack-and-slash game from ShiftUp, developers of NIKKE, performed exceptionally well on consoles last year, but PC gamers are not only embracing this success, they’re amplifying it significantly.
Stellar Blade crushes PlayStation PC records
In the game Stellar Blade, players assume command over Eve, a robot in form-fitting armor, venturing across a post-apocalyptic Earth filled with monsters. Along the journey, they engage in combat and acquire an array of costumes to customize their character. Interestingly enough, Eve has a peculiar affinity for collecting cans throughout her adventure.
On Steam, Stellar Blade stands as the highest-performing single-player PlayStation game on PC to date. Despite efforts to introduce popular console exclusive series such as God of War, Uncharted, and Spider-Man to the platform, Stellar Blade is breaking records one after another.
Before the release of ShiftUp’s game, the highest number of players playing a single-player PlayStation game simultaneously on PC was recorded in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, reaching 66,436. Coming in second place, Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition peaked at 56,557 concurrent players.
Currently, Stellar Blade has reached a maximum simultaneous player count of 104,311 (just three minutes ago), and that number is continuing to grow. Yet, it’s important to note that this figure pales in comparison to the record-breaking PC PlayStation launch of Helldivers 2.
Following its launch, Helldivers 2 has consistently surpassed Stellar Blade’s peak concurrent player count on Steam, with a record-breaking high of more than 400,000 players. In comparison to PlayStation’s other single-player games, this provocative hack-and-slash title stands out as the most successful one, significantly outperforming titles like The Last of Us: Part 1, which peaked at only 36,496 players.
Indeed, one factor contributing significantly to the success of ShiftUp’s action game on PC is its extensive collection of mods, numbering in the hundreds. In the short time since its launch, players have been busy designing outfits for the character Eve, incorporating styles from The First Descendant, Zenless Zone Zero, and other popular titles. There’s even a mod that replaces the evade sound effect with one from Dragon Ball Z, which adds an exciting touch.
ShiftUp’s journey with Stellar Blade isn’t over yet; they’ve already begun working on another game for PlayStation 5, which could potentially introduce additional outfits for the main character. Fingers crossed that this upcoming title will also make its way to PC platforms – considering the success it’s had so far, it seems unlikely not to.
