Paul Feig Defends Blake Lively; Calls Online Outrage Over Another Simple Favor Drama ‘Boring’ and Misguided

Director Paul Feig is expressing support for Blake Lively amid ongoing internet debates over her legal dispute with Justin Baldoni, as well as behind-the-scenes gossip related to the movie Another Simple Favor. In a recent conversation with Esquire magazine, Feig spoke up in defense of Lively’s professionalism and clarified common misunderstandings about the film industry.

Feig praised Blake Lively as a “wonderful team player” and expressed his annoyance at the general public’s lack of understanding about movie production. He also commented on internet criticism, stating that those who express anger online often lack the necessary knowledge about the topic.

As an ardent admirer, I’d rephrase it as follows: “I, for one, can’t help but notice how pervasive outrage has become in today’s social media landscape. It’s Feig who pointed out that this constant uproar often overshadows significant issues. In his words to Esquire, ‘Outrage is the least stimulating emotion we experience these days.’ Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate righteous indignation when it’s directed at something truly meaningful. But it seems like people are outraged about everything these days. It’s a shame that this is what they choose to be angry about when there are other, more pressing matters demanding our attention and action. Let’s channel our anger into making the world a better place instead.

His remarks follow a prolonged period of debate and internet chatter about Lively’s legal disagreement with Baldoni. They both starred in and he directed “It Ends With Us,” a movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s book.

In December, Blake Lively submitted a complaint to the California Civil Rights Department, claiming that Justin Baldoni behaved inappropriately towards her sexually during the filming of “It Ends With Us.” Additionally, she asserted that prior to the movie’s premiere in August, Baldoni orchestrated a campaign to damage her reputation.

Subsequently, Baldoni initiated a lawsuit against The New York Times, Lively, and her spouse, actor Ryan Reynolds. This legal matter remains in the spotlight, generating interest from both the public and media. Notably, several figures in Hollywood have opted to remain quiet on the issue. However, Feig has consistently expressed his backing for Lively.

Feig has consistently collaborated with Lively on the two A Simple Favor movies, and he’s never been shy about expressing his admiration. In a December post on X (previously Twitter), he expressed: “She’s simply one of the most dedicated, imaginative, cooperative, skilled, and compassionate individuals I’ve ever encountered. It’s disheartening that she was subjected to this slanderous campaign. I think it’s abhorrent that she had to go through this.
