Adams and Sarah Rafferty revisiting their audition tapes for the iconic series. It’s a rare treat to witness such a personal look back at the moments that shaped the lives of Mike Ross and Donna Paulsen, characters who have left an indelible mark on the hearts of fans worldwide.
Patrick J. Adams and Sarah Rafferty are reminiscing about their days on Suits by watching back their initial audition tapes together with casting director Bonnie Zane during this week’s episode of Sidebar: A Suits Watch Podcast.
As reported by People, Adams’ audition captivated Zane so much that he offered him the role of Michael James Ross on the spot. Interestingly, both Adams and Rafferty, who played Donna Paulsen, reminisced about their individual audition experiences.
Adam slowly increased the excitement as he shared, “Bonnie is here, my friend, carrying our audition tapes. Sarah, I’m not sure if you’re ready for this, in terms of your mind and feelings. I’ve never witnessed anything like it before.
Before starting, The Plan B actor jokingly mentioned that neither he nor Rafferty had seen the footage prior. They had been apprehensive and curious about revisiting such a significant phase of their professional journeys earlier.
Later on, Adams decided to share his own audition video with them, playfully mentioning that there wasn’t enough time for everyone to watch it. Before hitting play, he fondly recalled the memory of purchasing a new suit for the audition, which was quite a stretch for him financially at the time.
In order to convincingly play the character Mike Ross, he felt it necessary to invest in a mature, professional-looking suit, despite his financial constraints. As he put it, “I splurged on a high-quality suit because I wanted something that truly represented a grownup.
In the video for his audition, he performed an extended scene aimed at convincing Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) to take him on board. It turned out that Adams was their preferred final choice following this audition, and no other actors were considered before him. This discovery left Adams feeling both gratified and astounded by the show.
