Patrick Dempsey Says He’s ‘More Anxiety-Ridden’ After Winning This Year’s Sexiest Man Alive Title; Find Out Why

As an ardent fan of Patrick Dempsey, I must say that his latest achievement as People’s Sexiest Man Alive is nothing short of exhilarating! His humility and grace in accepting this honor are truly commendable. Despite feeling anxious about maintaining his fitness levels, he’s using this platform to raise awareness for his cancer care foundation, The Dempsey Center. It’s heartening to see how he views fame not as an end in itself but as a means to serve others and make a positive impact.

In this week’s issue of PEOPLE, Patrick Dempsey was named Sexiest Man Alive. When asked about the honor, the actor shared his thoughts and explained how he utilized it. “It actually increases my anxiety,” he confessed, “I felt the need to stay fit and train harder.” Yet, he acknowledged that it offers a unique platform for a noble purpose.

The actor from Grey’s Anatomy stated that this platform helped him highlight his cancer care foundation, The Dempsey Center. He further mentioned, “Fame alone lacks substance, but when you can make a difference and serve others, that is the essence of life, bringing purpose and happiness.

As far as he’s concerned, receiving the SMA title was a significant honor and a nice boost to his ego, particularly at this stage in his life. He expressed his satisfaction about it, stating that “it’s great it’s happening now.” While admitting that his ego receives a small boost, he also mentioned that this recognition provides him with an opportunity to utilize it for something beneficial. Dempsey went on to say that there are numerous “excellent” men out there, either physically or as individuals.

Consequently, he underscored that while he appreciated the title, it didn’t carry much weight for him. With this new title, he became a member of an exclusive club of celebrities, which includes Chris Evans, Idris Elba, David Beckham, Bradley Cooper, George Clooney, and Matthew McConaughey. “It’s truly an honor to be among such distinguished individuals,” Dempsey acknowledged.

When questioned about his initial thoughts upon receiving the news, the actor reminisced about feeling taken aback and bursting out in laughter as if it were a jest. “I’ve always been the maid of honor!” he quipped. Yet, Dempsey didn’t let the title influence him and never considered himself in such a role. “So my self-esteem is intact,” he concluded.

58-year-old actor, TBD, is all set to appear in director Michael Mann’s biographical film on Ferrari. In this role, he will showcase his driving abilities as the character, Piero Taruffi, an Italian racer. Dempsey spoke about the movie’s teachings regarding risk-taking. He mentioned that since he had been interested in the project for quite some time, he reached out to Michael and expressed his desire to be involved, saying, “I’d like to talk about joining this project.
