Paramount Pictures has scheduled new movies for both the Sonic the Hedgehog and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchises for the 2028 holiday season, signaling a strong commitment to these popular series.
These two film series are now central to the studio, which is owned by Skydance, and today’s news confirms that Paramount is prioritizing them for the future.

New TMNT Live-Action Hybrid Arrives November 17, 2028
The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, a blend of live action and computer animation, is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 17, 2028. This release date is right before Thanksgiving, which is a great time to launch a film designed for broad audiences.
I’m really excited about the new TMNT reboot! It’s being produced by Neal H. Moritz, who did amazing work with the Sonic movies. From what I understand, Paramount is taking the franchise in a fresh direction, and while that means we won’t be seeing the darker, more mature ‘Last Ronin’ movie right now, it sounds like they’re building something really special for fans of all ages.
Paramount completely owns the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, which continues to be incredibly profitable. The previous three movies made almost $913 million worldwide, and in 2023, TMNT merchandise sales exceeded $1 billion globally for Paramount.
I’m so excited to hear that the sequel to Mutant Mayhem is still on track! It’s currently scheduled to come out on September 17, 2027, and I can’t wait. Jeff Rowe is directing again, which is fantastic, and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are producing – they clearly know what they’re doing!

New Sonic Universe Movie Hits December 22, 2028
Paramount is planning a new Sonic the Hedgehog movie to be released on December 22, 2028, just in time for the Christmas season.
The new film is a production of Moritz Original Film and SEGA Sammy Group. Last year’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had a very successful opening weekend, earning $60.1 million in the US and Canada. It ultimately grossed $236.1 million domestically and $492.1 million worldwide. The three Sonic the Hedgehog movies combined have earned a total of $1.2 billion globally.
Paramount+ had another success with the Knuckles series, which was watched for over 11 million hours worldwide in its first 28 days.
