As a fantasy fan, I’ve noticed a huge boom in the genre lately, especially with streaming services pouring money into big, elaborate adaptations. We viewers love getting lost in these richly imagined worlds and getting to know complex characters. But honestly, sometimes I think a show’s popularity outpaces its actual quality. Looking at some of the biggest hits, it’s fascinating to see how they’ve captured everyone’s attention, even with noticeable flaws in the storytelling or how quickly the plot moves. It really makes you think about what makes a fantasy series truly captivating.

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ (1997–2003)
