Outkast, Salt-N-Pepa, and Cyndi Lauper Inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Mariah Carey’s Stark Absence Noticed

2025’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been unveiled, and I simply can’t contain my excitement! This year’s class is nothing short of extraordinary, featuring the groundbreaking rap duo Outkast, the timeless pop icon Cyndi Lauper, and the legendary Chubby Checker from the ’60s. Additionally, Bad Company, a hard-hitting rock band, and the soulful Joe Cocker, who was inducted posthumously 11 years after his passing from lung cancer, have also been honored. The inductees were announced live on American Idol – quite the stage for such esteemed artists!

Other recipients this year are Soundgarden, The White Stripes, Salt-N-Pepa, and Warren Zevon (singer-songwriter), who are all set to receive the Musical Influence Award, as reported by BBC. This event will transpire in Los Angeles on November 8 and can be streamed live on Disney+.

Although there’s much enthusiasm for the chosen inductees, some notable figures are missing from the list, such as Mariah Carey. This pop legend, boasting an impressive repertoire of 19 No. 1 singles and a groundbreaking career, has once again been overlooked. Carey’s debut album, “Mariah Carey,” held the top spot on the Billboard chart for 11 consecutive weeks back in 1990.

Her timeless holiday tune “All I Want for Christmas Is You” ranks as the 11th best-selling single ever, yet it’s the second time she hasn’t been inducted into the Rock Hall. Fans and critics alike are raising doubts about this decision, and last year, in response to being overlooked, Mariah Carey simply stated, “I didn’t make it.

Notable absences also include British groups Oasis and Joy Division/New Order, neither of which managed to secure a spot this year. Interestingly, Oasis had previously been nominated back in 2024 but missed out again for 2025. Liam Gallagher, their lead singer, has voiced his disapproval of the Rock Hall in the past, stating that he finds no appeal in an award bestowed by “an elderly individual dressed in a cowboy hat.

In 2021, it’s Salt-N-Pepa, the pioneering all-female hip-hop collective, who are set to receive the Musical Impact Award. They will share the spotlight with Warren Zevon, a beloved artist admired by heavyweights like Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan in the music scene.

Chubby Checker, famous for his classic hit “The Twist,” has been long overdue for induction but finally got recognized this year. The singer had pleaded in a full-page ad in Billboard magazine back in 2001 to be acknowledged by the Hall of Fame. His heartfelt message was, “I want my flowers while I’m still alive.” This momentous occasion signifies a significant milestone for Checker’s long and fruitful career.

Distinguished inductees such as Outkast, who significantly reshaped hip-hop music, and Soundgarden, famous for their grunge classic Black Hole Sun, have been selected. The White Stripes, known for hits like Seven Nation Army, are also part of the group being honored. The induction event will occur in Los Angeles on November 8 and can be streamed live on Disney+.
