A highlight of The Outer Worlds 2 is the diverse group of companions you can recruit to help you on your journey. Each companion has a distinct personality, a personal story, and quests that can influence their ultimate fate. We’ve put together a guide detailing how to find and recruit every companion in the game.
Niles

You’ll first meet Niles, a new agent with the Earth Directorate, during the game’s opening mission. Unfortunately, things go wrong, and he’s badly hurt. He does survive, though, and reconnects with you ten years later after you’re awakened from cryosleep. Niles is a permanent companion and will be with you throughout the entire game.
VAL

VAL is a robot companion who assists you throughout the game as an agent of the Earth Directorate. Between the initial mission and the main story, VAL and Niles work tirelessly to scout the universe for you. You won’t be able to miss VAL, as they’re a key part of the narrative.
Inez

Inez is a modified soldier working for Aunty’s Choice, but a flaw in her modifications is slowly killing her. Early in the game, after arriving in Fairfield, the mayor asks you to investigate a nearby station because the person previously sent there hasn’t returned. You’ll find Inez there, and she’s understandably upset that someone else is taking over her assignment.
When you come back, you’ll face a challenge. You can convince Inez to leave Aunty’s Choice and then invite her to join your team.
Tristan

You’ll first be able to meet Tristan after you leave Eden and travel to Free Market Station. Head south to the 2nd Choice bar, where you’ll find him chatting with the bartender about Protectorate matters. If you offer to help him with his problems, you can start the side quest “Arbitrary Measures” and eventually add him to your crew.
Marisol

I’m really excited about Marisol! She’s a super skilled assassin and well-known within the Order of Ascendants. You actually meet her as you progress through the main story. After leaving Eden, the Order contacts you and sends you to investigate why one of their stations attacked Aunty’s Choice, even though there was a ceasefire. Basically, you’re tasked with figuring out who sabotaged things, and you end up meeting an older woman who seems to be the one responsible.
She’ll strongly maintain she didn’t do anything wrong and ask you to search the area. If you listen to her, you’ll discover who she really is. Supporting her in a conflict with the people in charge of the base will allow you to invite her to join your team.
Aza

Aza is a member of the Glorious Dawn cult who enjoys killing, and she becomes available to recruit after her fellow cultists abandon her. You can find her at the Decommissioned Autonomous Extractorium, west of Dorado. You’ll probably pass through this area anyway while following the main story to reach the N-Ray Range.
Defeat the cultists and rescue the woman locked upstairs – this will start her quest, “The Dawn of Glorious Betrayal.” Once the quest begins, she’ll ask to join your crew and help you eliminate the people at the N-Ray Range. You can either bring her there, or if you’ve already cleared it out, simply show her the area as proof.
