Out With the Old, In With the New: New Reports Reveal Exciting Details About the MCU’s Post-Secret Wars Reboot!

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the intricate worlds of Marvel and DC, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation about the impending soft reboot of the MCU. Like a seasoned RPG player, I’ve invested years into this universe, watching it grow, evolve, and sometimes stumble.

After the debut of Deadpool and Wolverine, there’s been a renewed enthusiasm among fans and improved box office performance for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Yet, it’s crucial to acknowledge that several hero narratives have been sidelined for quite some time, while many significant aspects within the MCU continue to be disregarded.

Initially, the grandest interconnected film series ever made has, more recently, transformed into a complicated mess, as each fresh addition layers on unanswered storylines and increasing contradictions in logic.

For quite some time now, there’s been a lot of chatter suggesting that the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be preparing for a fresh start. It seems like an ideal opportunity to overhaul the whole universe, and who knows, perhaps the ‘Secret Wars‘ could serve as the catalyst?

It appears that several reliable resources indicate a forthcoming refresh, or reboot, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). During a recent Ask Me Anything session in October, Alex Perez from Cosmic Circus hinted at a soft reboot instead of a complete overhaul for the MCU.

User: Is there going to be a continuity revamp following the “Secret Wars”? Or will it be a gentle reboot that preserves everything preceding it, or is there simply not going to be a reboot at all?

Alex Perez:  From what I understand, it’s a soft reboot.

What this implies is that this new development aligns with a point we shared some time ago. In Joanna Robinson’s book, The Reign of Marvel Studios, it’s disclosed that Kevin Feige intends to trim parts that aren’t effective while maintaining what continues to thrive.

Kevin Feige’s quote seems to hint at the idea that upcoming events like Secret Wars might function as a soft reset, allowing them to trim away elements that aren’t functioning well while preserving what works effectively, or even bringing back characters previously believed to be permanently departed. (This isn’t using Loki’s wordplay.)

It’s been speculated that following the “old” Multiverse’s overhaul, it seems probable that only the teams, such as the Fantastic Four and Young Avengers, will persist. The X-Men, on the other hand, may be introduced post-Secret Wars reboot.

A gentle restart could help resolve many problems in the MCU right now, giving certain characters a chance at a new beginning. In a soft restart, significant characters, incidents, or segments from the original storyline might be retained or referenced, while other elements are reimagined, discarded, or modernized to appeal to a newer audience.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they might choose to reboot specific plotlines or introduce fresh character adaptations, all the while acknowledging previous occurrences. By doing so, the series can progress and change without erasing its rich history altogether.
