At last, the eagerly anticipated companion novel for “Oshi no Ko” is making its way to North America! Yen Press has officially confirmed that “[Oshi No Ko] Spica of the First Star” will soon be available in English, published under their Yen On imprint.
This light novel serves as a prequel to the popular manga, delving into significant events that transpired prior to the central storyline. First published in Japan during November 2023, this book has garnered much anticipation due to its revelations about key characters within the series. The English adaptation is scheduled for release in July.
The “Oshi no Ko” manga revolves around the heart-wrenching and intense saga of pop idol Ai Hoshino and her offspring, Aqua and Ruby. Although Ai initially takes center stage, she meets a tragic end in the early chapters, leading the narrative to focus on Aqua and Ruby instead. However, here’s the catch: both characters are reincarnations of individuals who had connections with Ai in their past existences.
The freshly published book titled “Spica of the First Star” delves into the story of Ai as she strives to break free from her idol group, B Komachi. It further uncovers the previous lives of Aqua and Ruby, revealing their encounter and subsequent separation, only to be reincarnated as Ai’s offspring. Meanwhile, the narrative in the book’s storyline “Perspective B” spotlights one of Ai’s bandmates during her time with B Komachi.

As a dedicated fan of the “Oshi no Ko” universe, I can’t help but marvel at its ever-growing expanse. Though the manga series wrapped up on November 14, 2024, it hasn’t dampened the flow of fresh content one bit. Post the captivating spin-off “Spica of the First Star”, another light novel titled “Futari no Etude” graced the shelves of Japan in December 2024, keeping our love for this fascinating world alive and well!
This book narrates the story of Kana Arima and Akane Kurokawa, initially enemies turned friends with Aqua and Ruby. It functions as both a prelude and sequel, delving into their childhood experiences and the events that unfold post the manga’s conclusion. Unfortunately, there’s no news on when it will be available in English translation.
In the meantime, it’s been announced that the anime will carry on, with Season 3 due out in 2026. A sneak peek from Doga Kobo has been shared, showing Aqua and Ruby on a movie set, suggesting the upcoming events in their tale.
