Every year at the Oscars, there’s a customary tribute paid to deceased entertainers as a way of acknowledging the enduring impact they made through the “In Memoriam” segment. As usual, this tradition was upheld this year; however, some names were inadvertently left off the list.
As a lifestyle expert reflecting on the past year, I find it unfortunate to acknowledge that some notable entertainers did not receive recognition during the In Memoriam tribute at the Academy Awards. Among them was Michelle Trachtenberg, who sadly passed away on February 26, 2025. Additionally, Shannen Doherty, Olivia Hussey, Tony Roberts, Linda Lavin, Martin Mull, Alain Delon, Chance Perdomo, Tony Todd, Bernard Hill, and documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock also left us too soon but did not receive the tribute they deserved.
A variety of well-known figures such as David Lynch, James Earl Jones, Donald Sutherland, Maggie Smith, Gena Rowlands, Jeff Baena, Gene Hackman, among others, were featured in this special recognition.
As reported by Variety, the renowned actor, Morgan Freeman, paid tribute to Gene Hackman, who sadly passed away alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa. Freeman had the pleasure of working with Hackman in the films “Under Suspicion” and “Unforgiven.
According to the article’s account, The Bucket List actor stated, “This week, we bid farewell to a colossal figure in our community. I also lost a cherished friend, Gene Hackman.” Morgan further mentioned that he was fortunate to work with Hackman on the two mentioned projects.
The seasoned actor went on, “Much like those who worked alongside him, I discovered that he was not only a selfless performer but also a person whose talents raised the quality of everyone’s performance.
Freeman additionally expressed, “Gene often stated, ‘I don’t ponder legacy. I merely wish people recall me as someone who strived to do worthwhile work,'” furthermore noting, “In our shared sentiment, I say, ‘Gene, you will be remembered for this, and so much more.’ Farewell, my friend.” (Rest in peace)
Each year, it seems there are individuals left out from being acknowledged, a situation that arises understandably due to The Academy’s inability to provide an endless number of time slots for listing their names and images. Typically, a lengthy list about this is published on its website, as reported by Variety.
