At the 2025 Oscars, the James Bond franchise took center stage with an impressive medley of songs inspired by the movies, presented by Halle Berry (a former Bond girl), and sung by Lisa, Doja Cat, and Raye. The performance was preceded by a brief introduction from Margaret Qualley.
Initially, the renowned K-pop artist Lisa showcased a segment of Live and Let Die through her signature dance routine. Meanwhile, Doja Cat tackled Diamonds Are Forever, a song made popular by Shirley Bassey, and Raye interpreted Skyfall, which Adele won an Oscar for in 2012.
Recently, there’s been a lot of talk about the 007 franchise, not due to a new film release. Last week, it was announced that Michael G. Wilson, aged 83, and Barbara Broccoli, aged 64 – the caretakers of the Bond movie series owned by their late father’s EON Productions – are selling their shares to Amazon. This move has kept the Broccoli family in creative control over the iconic Bond story since it debuted on screen in 1962.
In November, they both received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, which is one of many Governor’s Awards recognitions. Tonight, they were recognized once more as Bond was celebrated with a musical tribute for its numerous movie-themed songs.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I can attest that the music associated with Bond is just as iconic as the character himself. It masterfully combines grand cinematic elegance with catchy pop appeal. The legendary James Bond Theme, that surf guitar melody we all know and love, was initially penned by Monty Norman and later arranged by John Barry. In 1964, Shirley Bassey added Goldfinger to the Bond franchise’s rich musical history, followed by Diamonds Are Forever in 1971. Later on, Paul McCartney contributed Live and Let Die (1973), Duran Duran provided A View to a Kill (1985), Adele graced us with Skyfall (2012), Sam Smith delivered Writing’s on the Wall (2015), and most recently, Billie Eilish brought her unique touch to No Time to Die (2020). Each of these tracks has left an indelible mark, just like 007 himself.
Inquired about her fellow singers during a red carpet interview, Raye commented, “They’re two absolutely hilarious and genuine artists… I adore them both tremendously.
In 2025, Conan O’Brien will be the host for the Academy Awards. Some of the early winners announced include Kieran Culkin, Zoe Saldaña, and others.
