Oscar-Winning Actress Could Be the Dark Lord: HBO’s Harry Potter Reboot Eyes Lady Voldemort

HBO is finally making a Harry Potter TV show, and it will closely follow the stories from J.K. Rowling’s popular books.

Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, and Nick Frost will also be featured in the show, appearing in supporting roles.

HBO and Warner Bros. Television are creating the series alongside Brontë Film & TV and Heyday Films. Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner, and Mark Mylod is directing – they’re both key creative forces behind the project.

As a big fan, I was really excited to hear they started casting for the series late in 2024. Apparently, they looked at over 32,000 actors to find the right people for the main roles! It was great news when they finally announced in May that McLaughlin, Stout, and Stanton had officially joined the cast.

Filming began in July at Leavesden Studios in England and continued for several months. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, is expected to debut on HBO in the U.S. in early 2027.

According to recent reports from insider Daniel RPK, HBO is considering a surprising and potentially significant change to the character of Voldemort.

Rumors are circulating that the upcoming series might introduce a female Dark Lord, and many fans are hoping Tilda Swinton will play the part. Swinton, famous for her intense and enigmatic performances, has already gotten people talking online about the possibility of a “Lady Voldemort,” with the idea proving both thrilling and controversial.

Casting is underway for the role of Voldemort, and they’re considering actors of all genders, meaning we might see a female version of the character in the Harry Potter universe!

Fans have commented that the actress possesses a naturally captivating and powerful on-screen presence, which aligns well with the character of the Dark Lord. Many also appreciate her striking and ethereal appearance, believing it would make her a particularly compelling choice for the role.

While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, there’s talk of a new actor taking on the role, which would be a big change from how Ralph Fiennes famously played the character in the previous movies. HBO hasn’t said anything about the rumors, so fans are waiting for more information as filming progresses.
