Oscar Nominations Delayed Again, Nominees Luncheon Canceled Amid L.A. Wildfires; Here’s When the List Comes Out

Due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, the announcement of this year’s Oscar nominations has been postponed once more. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that they have extended the voting period from its original deadline of January 14, to January 17 instead.

Indeed, I must convey that the head of our esteemed organization has announced the cancellation of the nominees’ lunch, given the catastrophe engulfing our city. This decision, no doubt, is a response to prioritizing safety and well-being during these challenging times.

President Janet Yang expressed, “We’re deeply saddened by the destruction caused by the fires and the significant losses felt across our community. Historically, The Academy has been a bond that unites the film industry, and we are resolute in joining forces to overcome adversity.

Given that fires are currently burning in the Los Angeles region, we believe it’s important to prolong our voting duration and shift the date of our nomination declaration to provide extra time for our members.

On January 23rd, we’ll see the unveiling of this year’s Oscar nominees, but unlike previous years, it won’t be announced in a live setting. Instead, the announcement will happen virtually, with no audience present at the venue. Additionally, the traditionally held luncheon scheduled for February 10th has been called off by the committee.

The 97th Academy Awards will be happening at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 2nd.
