Oscar Isaac and Charles Melton Starring in BEEF Season 2

As a gamer with a penchant for binge-watching gripping series, I can’t help but feel my heart racing at the news of Netflix’s “Beef” season 2. With an already stellar cast graced by the presence of Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, who previously starred together in the critically acclaimed “Inside Llewyn Davis,” and new additions like Charles Melton, Youn Yuh-jung, Cailee Spaeny, and more, this show is shaping up to be a masterpiece.

Netflix has officially greenlit a second season of the series “Beef,” with Lee Sung Jin serving as showrunner and A24 handling production. The show has just revealed an enlarged cast for its upcoming second season, which includes Oscar Isaac, Charles Melton, Carey Mulligan, Youn Yuh-jung, and Cailee Spaeny.

Isaac and Mulligan team up once more for the movie “Beef,” following their collaboration on the 2013 film “Inside Llewyn Davis.” The addition to the “Beef” cast comes from Melton, who garnered widespread acclaim for his performance in Netflix’s “May December,” a role that netted him a Golden Globe nomination.

“Spaiy has portrayed the lead character in ‘Civil War’, ‘Alien: Romulus’, and ‘Priscilla’, with the latter earning her a Golden Globe nomination. Youn Yuh-jung, on the other hand, garnered international fame for her performance as Soon-ja in ‘Minari’. Notably, she became the first Korean actor to receive an Academy Award.

In the second season, we’ll delve into a new narrative thread, focusing on the repercussions of a young duo stumbling upon a heated argument between their superior and his spouse. Much like the initial season, this explosive display of anger sets the stage for a series of events that dramatically alter the lives of our primary characters. The story will primarily unfold within the context of an exclusive golf club owned by a wealthy Korean businessman.

The second season will consist of eight episodes instead of ten, with each episode running approximately 30 minutes. Lee Sung Jin remains in his role as showrunner and executive producer. Additionally, Jake Schreier, known for directing ‘Paper Towns’, is also serving as an executive producer. Both Lee and Schreier are currently collaborating on the upcoming Marvel production titled ‘Thunderbolts’.

I’m thrilled to share that Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, who shone brilliantly in season one of “Beef,” are also involved as executive producers for the next installment. In the first season, they portrayed Danny Cho and Amy Lau, characters whose initial road rage encounter gradually spiraled into full-blown chaos, taking over their lives. (To be fair, it wasn’t exactly a slow burn, but it certainly was intense!)

Interestingly, the initial dramatic event in the first season stemmed from a genuine road rage incident experienced by Lee, which he shared during a South by Southwest panel. A car honked and shouted at him before driving off. Admittedly, that’s quite typical for Los Angeles! Lee stated, “On that particular day, I felt compelled to follow you.” The actual event did not escalate or conclude as depicted in the show, but it served as the inspiration for Lee to develop the storyline.

You can watch the first season on Netflix to catch up before season 2.
