Original X-Men Star Speaks Out About Being Passed Over for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Famke Janssen, who famously played a character in the original X-Men movies, has explained why she won’t be in the new Avengers: Doomsday film.

Speaking with Screen Rant, she admitted she isn’t fully aware of the story for the new movie.

Honestly, I’m a bit lost when it comes to the plot! It’s not a world I’m super familiar with, even after being involved for so long. I probably *should* know what’s going on by now, but I’m just as excited as everyone else to see how it all wraps up when it’s released. I’ll be finding out the story alongside all the fans!

Despite her absence, Janssen has expressed interest in reprising her role as Jean Grey in the past.

Coming back to the role might also help resolve issues from the making of *X-Men: Apocalypse*, where Janssen felt she wasn’t given the same opportunities as her male colleagues, a problem she attributed to sexism in Hollywood.

She envisioned revisiting Jean Grey as an older character, much like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen reprised their roles in later X-Men movies. If Marvel were to bring her back for a future project, it would offer fans a last chance to see Janssen as the character before a new actress took over.

Okay, so get this – the next Avengers movie, which they’re calling ‘Doomsday’, is going to be Marvel’s *thirty-ninth* film overall! And it’s the fifth time we’re seeing the Avengers team up on the big screen. Can you believe it? I’m already counting down the days!

The film boasts a huge cast of stars, including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, and Robert Downey Jr.

The upcoming movie brings together Earth’s mightiest heroes – including the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the original X-Men – to battle Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. Filming started in April at Pinewood Studios in England, continued with shoots in Bahrain, and finished in September.

The new Avengers movie, titled Doomsday, is set to premiere in the US on December 18, 2026. It will be the start of the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). A follow-up film, Secret Wars, is currently scheduled to come out on December 17, 2027.
