Original Plan for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Featured Two Villains

As a long-time Marvel fan who has seen every single movie since the very beginning, I must say that the revelation about the original plans for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” left me feeling rather disappointed and frustrated. It seems that the initial concept had Wanda Maximoff as a hero instead of the villain we saw on screen, which would have made for a much more compelling storyline in my opinion.

In the realm of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I found myself drawn into an exhilarating journey titled “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” This breathtaking sequel to the captivating “Doctor Strange” film saw the return of the enigmatic sorcerer. The masterful director, Sam Raimi, orchestrated this spectacle, where Doctor Strange found himself locked in a fierce battle against none other than Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch. In this movie, Wanda’s transformation into a seemingly villainous figure was fully realized.

While the movie was well-made, it did receive criticism and isn’t considered among the top MCU films today, likely due to its weak storyline. Although we had notable appearances, a grand magical setting, and a strong group of mages, these elements didn’t seem to fully meet the fans’ expectations, as rightly so, they were seeking more depth.

However, it appears an insider privy to the concept art has disclosed that the movie underwent numerous transformations. Originally, Wanda was intended as a hero character, but later a second antagonist was introduced. These plans were eventually scrapped in favor of the final version we saw on screen. Keep reading for further information!

Information concerning the initial plans was disclosed on the platform previously known as Twitter, by [Name], who shared this data through their account on the social networking site.

In the gaming world, I’ve been lucky enough to get an early sneak peek at some concept art for Multiverse of Madness. Here’s a glimpse into the original game plan: Originally, Wanda was set to be the hero, not the villain, in this story. The primary antagonist was meant to be Nightmare, and Wanda was intended to assist in defeating him instead of becoming the source of chaos herself.

In case you’re unable to see the tweet, here is what it said:

In the original blueprint for Multiverse of Madness, the story originally positioned Wanda as a hero rather than a villain. The primary adversary was intended to be Nightmare, with Doctor Strange relying on Wanda’s assistance to vanquish him. However, Feige and Waldron opted to alter the narrative. Interestingly, Waldron, who hadn’t yet seen WandaVision, had a strong desire to portray Wanda as the antagonist. This decision ultimately sparked a major revamp of the plotline. At one stage, Chthon was also slated to have a substantial role in the film; however, Feige decided it would be more fitting for a future Scarlet Witch movie.

Looking back, everything turned out quite differently than what I initially imagined, and here’s a glimpse into the reactions of fellow fans:

Would have been so much better. FFS

Kevin Feige and his team should have given more thought to maintaining consistency in the development of the Wanda character, as there appears to be a significant difference between her at the end of Wandavision and the Multiverse of Madness. This inconsistency seems to disregard the beloved character we’ve grown fond of.

In a different telling, the movie could have unfolded immediately following Wandavision, where Dr. Strange encounters Wanda post-Westview events and invites her to assist him in his battle against Nightmare. Simultaneously, it would portray Wanda’s downfall, as she carries the Darkhold with her, a fact unknown to Strange, leading to her eventual descent into madness.

It’s been suggested that Nightmare would have made a more fitting main antagonist, and he should have tormented Doctor Strange since Strange essentially forced Tony Stark into sacrificing himself to save half the universe.
