Six years have passed since Mahershala Ali was unveiled as the new Blade at Comic-Con by Marvel, but aside from a voice role in Eternals, we haven’t seen the vampire hunter on screen again. Except for Wesley Snipes reprising his role as the original Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine, of course. However, the new Blade movie seems to be struggling to move forward. And one person who doesn’t understand this delay and is eager to assist is David S. Goyer, the writer of the original Blade trilogy. When ScreenRant asked if he would be interested in writing Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot, this is what he replied:
1. Option: Contact me whenever you can. I’m eager to do so because I’ve always adored the character, and he remains my favorite. Frankly, I’ve been on the edge of my seat, questioning, “What’s the story here? Why is it taking so long?” This Marvel fan is left scratching their head in bewilderment.
2. Option: I look forward to calling you. My enthusiasm for this character runs deep, and he continues to be my top pick. To be honest, I’ve been on the sidelines, pondering, “What’s going on? Why is it taking so long?” As a Marvel enthusiast myself, I find the situation perplexing.
3. Option: Let’s connect soon. My affinity for this character is unwavering, and he remains my favorite by far. Frankly, I’ve been left wondering, “What’s the deal here? Why is it taking so long?” This Marvel fan can’t help but feel puzzled.
4. Option: How about we talk soon? My admiration for this character knows no bounds, and he’s my all-time favorite. To be honest, I’ve been left in a state of confusion, asking myself, “What’s the story with this? Why is it taking so long?” As a Marvel fanatic myself, I can’t help but feel bewildered.
5. Option: When can we chat? My fondness for this character is undying, and he continues to be my go-to guy. Frankly, I’ve been left scratching my head, asking “What’s the lowdown here? Why is it taking so long?” This Marvel fan can’t help but feel perplexed.
Each option communicates the same sentiment while using slightly different wordings and phrasing for a more natural and engaging read.
2022 marked the anticipated start of filming for Blade, but Marvel abruptly halted production as soon as set construction began. Directors Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange exited the project at different points, leaving Marvel to take it off their release schedule. An earlier concept would have placed the story in 1920s New Orleans. It’s intriguing to consider if Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, set in the early ’30s South, may have been too closely related, prompting Marvel to reconsider their plans. It’s hard to understand why Marvel hasn’t recognized that a period piece for Blade set in the 1970s, reminiscent of the character’s initial appearance, would be ideal.
David S. Goyer did an exceptional job on the initial two Blade movies, marking the first successful film adaptation of a Marvel comic. Essentially, Blade paved the way for future hits like X-Men and Spider-Man. Although Goyer was involved in Blade Trinity, it’s best not to dwell on that. However, he contributed to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, demonstrating that his strengths outweigh his weaknesses in this genre. Considering Marvel’s current situation, it might be beneficial for them to consider Goyer for a project. At this point, they have little to lose. As of last year, Kevin Feige mentioned that Marvel is still working on perfecting Blade. Here’s hoping they don’t overcomplicate things. All we want is to see the Daywalker battling vampires with stylish weapons – it shouldn’t be too challenging!
