Oracle’s Dip: Seriously?

So, Oracle [ORCL 4.58%] took a hit yesterday. A 6.5% drop. You know, it’s just… irritating. It’s not even Oracle doing anything wrong. It’s Microsoft [MSFT 12.07%]. Microsoft! They report earnings, and suddenly Oracle is supposed to feel bad? It’s like getting a cold because your neighbor sneezed. Unacceptable.

Apparently, Microsoft spent $37.5 billion on capital expenditures. Thirty-seven and a half billion! What are they doing with all that money? Building a solid gold data center? And then they have the nerve to admit demand for AI is exceeding capacity. Exceeding capacity! It’s like a restaurant bragging they’re too popular. Just prepare, people! That’s what planning is for.

The market, of course, panicked. Sent Microsoft down 12%. Which, fine. They deserve it. But then Oracle gets dragged down with them? It’s a contagion, I tell you! A financial contagion of poor foresight and overspending. And everyone just accepts it.

What Does Any of This Have to Do With Oracle?

Oracle, for their part, reported decent numbers in December. Revenue up 14%, earnings jumping. They even have a backlog of $523 billion. That’s a lot of… something. But nobody cares about a backlog when the big kids are throwing tantrums. They spent $35.5 billion on capex, too. See? It’s a pattern! Everyone’s just throwing money around like it grows on trees. It’s irresponsible.

And now, Oracle’s valuation is “coming back to earth”? As if that’s a good thing. It was up there, doing its thing, and now it’s being pulled down by the gravitational force of Microsoft’s excess. It’s just… frustrating. The stock is at 31 times earnings, which is “in line” with peers. “In line” with a bunch of companies that are probably also spending money they don’t need to.

So, now people are saying Oracle is “intriguing”? Because it’s cheaper? It’s like saying a slightly dented car is a good deal. It’s still a dented car! Look, they have a huge backlog, they’re not recklessly spending money… it’s the least offensive of the bunch, I suppose. But “intriguing”? Let’s not get carried away. It’s just… a stock. And frankly, I’m starting to think the whole market is just one big, elaborate practical joke.
