Keegan-Michael Key has officially joined the cast for season 5 of Only Murders in the Building on Hulu. According to Deadline, this talented comedian-actor will appear in a recurring role within the popular show’s narrative, though specific details about his character and story arc have yet to be revealed.
Earlier this week, the highly praised and award-winning TV series started its filming process in New York City. This production marks the return of the legendary group consisting of Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short. They not only star in the show but also act as executive producers behind the scenes.
In the fourth installment of the comedy-drama, a prominent ensemble graced our screens, featuring the likes of Meryl Streep returning from her role in season 3, alongside Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Paul Rudd, Jane Lynch, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani, and Molly Shannon.
It appears that the fifth season is set to expand significantly with Key joining the cast as its first officially announced member. This upcoming season promises to delve into the enigma surrounding Lester’s unsolved murder, a role skillfully portrayed by Teddy Coluca.
The TV show has been praised since its debut, but at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards, it achieved a notable achievement by winning its first award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Interestingly, the third season of the show made history with a massive 21 Emmy nominations.
In his latest projects, Key lends his voice to the character of Bumblebee in Transformers One. Additionally, he voiced Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a film that boasted the talents of Jack Black, Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, and several other notable actors.
Additionally, the actor appeared in a notable guest role on ABC’s popular sitcom Abbott Elementary and CBS’s Elsbeth. Following his involvement with the cast of a Hulu series, Key will soon appear in Amazon MGM Studios’ gritty crime thriller film titled Play Dirty, sharing screen time with Mark Wahlberg.
