Online Petition for ‘Armor Wars’ Raises Concerns About Marvel’s Handling of Black-Led Projects

As a seasoned gamer and Marvel fanatic who’s been through thick and thin with the MCU, I can’t help but feel a pang of frustration as I read about the ongoing saga of “Armor Wars”. This project has been in development limbo for far too long, leaving fans like me on tenterhooks.

The production house, Marvel Studios, is busy working on numerous upcoming projects that are progressing well in their development stages over the coming years. Yet, there’s one film that has been stalled in the development phase for quite some time, with infrequent updates: the War Machine movie titled Armor Wars

The movie titled “Armor Wars” was initially conceived as a project inspired by the same-titled comic series. It was intended to succeed films like “Secret Invasion” (released recently) and “Ironheart” (set for 2025). As far back as 2011, Don Cheadle announced that a War Machine film was under development, with Joe Robert Cole being recruited to pen the script

Approximately nine years after the announcement, during Disney’s Investor Day in 2020, it was disclosed that Armor Wars was going to be turned into a television series on Disney+, with Don Cheadle reprising his role as James Rhodes. In 2021, Cheadle hinted that filming would begin within the next few months

As a diehard Marvel fan, I’m excited to share that back in August 2021, Yassir Lester was named the head writer for this incredible project. But here’s a twist! In September 2022, Marvel Studios made the strategic move to transform our beloved series into a feature film instead. Don Cheadle and Yassir Lester remained key figures in this transition. Filming was initially scheduled to start in early 2023 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, but alas, it had to be postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which caused quite a ripple effect across the entire entertainment industry

The progress on this project has been slow and intricate, punctuated infrequently with news, much of which stems from speculation. Lately, a fresh whisper has stirred up excitement among followers, hinting at potential problems for the project, along with the anticipated Blade remake

Daniel Richtman recently revealed some insider information on his Patreon, hinting that decisions about the fate of these projects are expected within the next few months from the studio

It’s expected that Marvel Studios will make crucial decisions regarding ‘BLADE’ and ‘ARMOR WARS’ within the next few months, according to reports by Daniel RPK

This scoop stands out because while both projects have been stagnant in their development for many years, it’s only the Blade project that has garnered extensive attention, with its director departing in March and Mahershala Ali’s legal representative voicing concerns about slow progress following years of development

A lot of enthusiasts have been excitedly looking forward to the release of Armor Wars. When a recent rumor emerged, a swift campaign was initiated on petitions to avert its potential cancellation

The petition clearly requests Marvel Studios to proceed with the planned project, as it’s stated in its concise wording

The Marvel’s Armor Wars series, initially unveiled as a Disney+series on Disney+ back in December 20202020, but then in August2022, it was shared that it would have six episodes and scheduled for a Disney+ series, it was later announced in August20202202020rworked that it would have six-series and start film. In September 2023, it was declared it would be reworked into a movie. It would feature film. It’s six episodes, six episodes and filming in 2020202020203, and began in 20 203 instead Armor2023!

For the past two years now, there’s (orally, no formal announcements about Armor Wars have been made, making it unclear whether this Marvel Cinema-wise, it seems that the film might be in limbo, or Armor Wars movie was first announced back in 202 appeared, had no official news, but no official updates. Fanswas announced, leaving fans to wonder if the project cancelled

It’s you might raise questions as to why Marvel keeps missing the mark missed opportunities for Marvel seems to consistently falter on projects led by people of color-driven projects like series like Armor project such as Armor Wars and Blade, Ironheart has been completed two years ago now set to release in 202025.Ironheart is scheduled for 2025 has been finished two years late 2025, while Marvel seems to be struggling with projects led by POC has faced-led projects like Blade Armor continue to release date assemble POC

Marvel, do better, and please make Armor Wars!

The petition implies that there might be problems within the studio when it comes to projects headed by individuals of color, notably those involving African Americans (Black-led projects). This critique is linked to a larger concern that fans have about the studio not doing enough in terms of reprising black characters and creating narratives centered around Black communities
