Netflix’s live-action series One Piece is expanding its cast for Season 3 with two new villains. Actors Awdo Awdo and Daisy Head have joined the production, which is currently filming in Cape Town.
Awdo will star as Mr. 1, and Head will play Miss Doublefinger. The production team announced these casting choices for the new season, which is currently being filmed in South Africa.
Those familiar with the original manga and anime will remember these characters as important members of Baroque Works, the dangerous criminal group that poses a major threat during the Alabasta storyline. Mr. 1, also called Daz Bonez, is well-known for his powers from the Dice-Dice Fruit, which allows him to transform parts of his body into incredibly sharp steel blades.
This character is a formidable opponent for Luffy’s crew. Known as Miss Doublefinger (or Zala), she has the ability to generate sharp spikes all over her body thanks to a special Devil Fruit. She’s recognized for her prickly attitude, flamboyant flair, and challenging fights with Nami. Her inclusion in Season 3 suggests the show will explore the Alabasta arc in more detail.
Netflix’s One Piece is a live-action adaptation of the incredibly popular manga series by Eiichiro Oda. The show centers on Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate on a quest for the ultimate treasure, the One Piece. Luffy has a straightforward goal: to become the King of the Pirates. With each new season, the show has presented increasingly challenging threats and unique settings from Oda’s universe, and the upcoming season promises to continue this trend.
I’m so excited for Season 2, launching on March 10th! It’s going to send the crew right into the heart of the Grand Line. From what I’ve heard, things are about to get really intense – they’re promising even stronger villains and more dangerous missions than ever before. Apparently, the Straw Hats will be discovering some incredible, strange islands and battling incredibly powerful foes as they get closer and closer to finding the ultimate treasure. I can’t wait!
Season 3 will see many familiar faces return. Iñaki Godoy will reprise his role as Luffy, alongside Mackenyu as Zoro, and Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero, and Taz Skylar as Nami, Usopp, and Sanji, respectively.
Charithra Chandran is returning as Miss Wednesday for the next season. Several actors who were featured in Season 2 will now have larger roles, including Mikaela Hoover as Chopper, Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0 (Crocodile), Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday (Nico Robin), and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra.
The cast is growing! Cole Escola will play Bon Clay, and Xolo Maridueña is joining as Ace, Luffy’s popular older brother.
