One Piece Remake Director Aims to Work on the Series ‘Forever’

As a seasoned lifestyle expert with a penchant for all things anime, I must say that the impending One Piece remake by Wit Studio and Netflix under the guidance of Masashi Koizuka, who is best known for his stellar work on Attack on Titan, has me genuinely excited. With a focus on staying true to the manga and a fresh perspective from the younger staff members, this series promises to be a unique blend of old-school charm and modern innovation.

As a lifestyle expert diving into the captivating world of anime, I’m thrilled to share that the iconic One Piece is getting a fresh take with the collaboration between Wit Studio and Netflix. Intriguing insights about the team behind this remake were unveiled in a YouTube video titled ‘Production Notes Vol. 1’, broadcast on Netflix’s Anime Channel. The series director for this project is none other than Masashi Koizuka, who has left a lasting impression with his exceptional work on the second and third seasons of Attack on Titan.

Regarding the series, Koizuka-san shared that he learned about the remake following a conversation with mangaka Eiichiro Oda. He expressed his desire to make the remake as similar as possible to the manga. The One Piece remake is included in the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the original anime series.

During One Piece Day 2024, Masashi Koizuka and other team members discussed the early stages of creating the series. “I believe capturing the feel of reading the manga is crucial in the video adaptation,” shared Koizuka. “While the work is done with utmost seriousness, it’s about finding ways to make the process less formal.”

Masashi Koizuka notes that if the series turns out to be successful, he would be thrilled to keep working on the anime for an extended period. In other words, he views this as a long-term project. If people enjoy what we produce, it implies that the work is cherished by many, and in such a case, he wishes to continue working on it indefinitely.

The director, Koizuka-san, mentioned that collaborating with younger team members allows him to provide a fresh perspective for the remake. He pointed out Kawamura, the producer, as an illustration. As they matured, they were both avid fans of One Piece, and now being part of this project retains their initial enthusiasm. The director feels that the vitality of the project comes from these energetic young team members.

A group of young professionals named Hideaki Abe (Assistant Director), Ken Imaizumi (Action Animator), Eri Taguchi (Prop Design), and Yashurio Kaijino (Image Board and Creature Design) are contributing to the reimagining of One Piece. As of now, a release date has not been disclosed. The recently unveiled concept art for the project showcases elements reminiscent of Eiichiro Oda’s original design style. Keep an eye out for future updates on the One Piece remake!
