ONE PIECE-Inspired Collection Debuts at New York Fashion Week

As a longtime fan of both One Piece and Steve Aoki’s groundbreaking work, I was absolutely thrilled to witness the DIM MAK x ONE PIECE Fashion Show at New York Fashion Week. Having grown up with Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece and experiencing Aoki’s innovative style evolution over the years, this collaboration felt like a perfect fusion of my two passions.

This month at New York Fashion Week, a fashion line influenced by “One Piece” made its debut. The collaboration was between Dim Mak, a popular lifestyle brand founded by Steve Aoki, the famous DJ, and Toei Animation to celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary. The DIM MAK x ONE PIECE collection offers an assortment of garments and accessories.

On September 9th, I was part of a captivating first-hand experience as the collection debuted within an immersive runway show at Artechouse. The fusion of visuals and elements from the series created an immersive atmosphere, whisking me away into the celebrated world of that renowned anime.

In a unique twist, the latest clothing line inspired by Eiichiro Oda’s “One Piece” takes cues from the series’ current Egghead storyline, infusing themes and references throughout the designs. Unlike typical anime clothing collaborations that focus solely on graphic t-shirts, this DIM MAK x ONE PIECE collaboration stands out by offering a more creative approach. It pushes beyond the confines of traditional anime-inspired fashion, providing an innovative take on clothing design.

The founder of Dim Mak, Steve Aoki, mentioned that he has a fantastic rapport with them. He shared that he presented a couple of concepts, to which they were very hands-on and approved each step meticulously. However, he desired to elevate things further, as you might understand, when discussing the extent of Toei Animation’s involvement in the creative direction of their collaboration.

Pivotal items within this assemblage were a versatile bomber jacket, showcased in ensembles inspired by characters such as Zoro Lilith and GEAR5. Additionally, a graphic printer athletic mesh jersey was present, appearing in looks inspired by various figures like Bonney, Franky, York, and others. A noteworthy addition to the collection was an embroidered jacket reminiscent of tapestries, as depicted earlier. The color scheme of the assortment echoed the atmosphere of Vegapunk Island. The collection also boasted a wide array of accessories, including caps adorned with embroidery, satin trucker hats, quilted satin trapper hats lined with faux fur, and molded silicone boots.

Last year, Dim Mak had a collection themed around “One Piece”. Aoki has announced that this series is set to go on sale next year, with the assurance that it will undeniably feature the highly popular boots.
