One Piece Heroines Anime Announced — But Fans Are Not Impressed

It’s been confirmed that a fresh One Piece anime will be centered around the female characters from the show. The news dropped during the One Piece Day celebration in Tokyo. This new adaptation is inspired by the One Piece Novel Heroines light novel series, which spins tales about the women inhabiting the world of One Piece.

In simpler terms, the upcoming anime deviates from the traditional art style of the primary One Piece series, as hinted by a sneak peek image showcasing characters like Nami and Robin. The official One Piece Twitter account announced that this spin-off will highlight aspects of the story not previously explored in the main narrative, promising a fresh perspective for fans.

Jun Esaka penned the initial stories, while Sayaka Suwa brought them to life visually. So far, there are two volumes available, featuring tales centered around popular characters like Nami, Robin, Vivi, Perona, Hancock, Tashigi, Reiju, and Uta. The upcoming anime version will be helmed by Haruka Kamatani, with character designs contributed by Takashi Kojima. The dialogue will be crafted by Momoka Toyoda, who has previously worked on One Piece: Fan Letter.

Apart from this fresh anime, it’s important to note that there’s another One Piece undertaking in progress. Netflix and WIT Studio are collaborating to rework the entire original series by Eiichiro Oda, giving it a distinctive new look and feel.

Although there’s buzz surrounding fresh One Piece material, some enthusiasts aren’t entirely pleased with this specific reveal. Many express disappointment that the emphasis on heroines isn’t what they had anticipated. Some took to online platforms to share their sentiments, such as, “‘It’d be fantastic if they animated the Ace Manga/Novel, given a competent studio.’” Others have also expressed a desire to see Law’s story unfold on screen. One fan even penned down ideas for a full-length movie based on Ace’s life journey, from his birth through his pirate days.

It appears that supporters are expressing disappointment as notable series such as “Shokugeki no Sanji” manga and other widely-loved stories don’t seem to be receiving adaptations, with the attention instead being directed towards subjects they find less captivating.

Yet, this upcoming anime appears set to offer an innovative perspective of the One Piece realm by emphasizing its female characters in a manner not previously explored within the main narrative. It’s uncertain whether fans will embrace this fresh approach, but it’s undeniably true that the expansive One Piece universe is evolving in various directions.
